WGOM Fund Drive

The donations dongle has been (re-)added to the sidebar. We are using PayPal instead of Google Checkout now. The fees are similar and they have fewer rules about what's not allowed.

A brief discussion of the finances for running this site:

  • The server costs $19.95 a month. I plan on switching to a yearly plan, which will cost us $215.46.
  • In addition, renewal for the wgom.org domain will cost $9.99.

It's a short list. The total projected expenses for the 2012* fiscal year is $225.45. This is the bare minimum of what needs to be donated every year. Once we reach that point, I can switch us over to yearly billing and you will only be asked to be a sustaining golden member once a year.

For now, while everything is being set up, please email halfbakeddonations [at] gmail if you donate to ensure we get everything. It will also allow us to set up some sort of recognition; if you want to remain anonymous, just say so.

Edit: A PayPal account is not required. You can donate via other methods, such as a credit card.

It seems our fiscal year might run from February to January. Oh well.

  1. In my fantasy world, the Citizenry would grow to the point that we could justify creating a 501(c)(3), whose mission would be to do Good Works on top of maintaining our little corner of the Interwebs.

    1. that's a topic that's been discussed, but i'll leave that dissemination to those more qualified than i.

    2. It's in WGOM Vision, but it's a lot of work. Right now, we need to start small and work up to it.

      1. that goes without saying.

I'm confident that we could quickly agree on a small set of worthy causes to pimp.

    3. Our car club set it self up as a 501(c)(3) a few years ago, the member who set it up wrote an article for the national club magazine about how to go about this. I know there are plenty of lawyers around here that know about this, but if anyone is interested I could forward his info.

    1. as soon as one of the house artists develops the swag, and the Powers That Be can incorporate costs for said swag into a membership pledge pricing structure πŸ™‚

      1. After checking the link, I see there's the Bill Me Later/Debit/Credit Card option I've used to pay for my AHA and SMH memberships. Since I brought it up, if you'd like to donate no PayPal account is necessary.

            1. I agree 100%. However, our options are limited unless we're a 501(c)(3). I'll edit the post noting that a PayPal account isn't necessary.

Note to hj: Make sure you pull the money to the account regularly.

              1. if i'm not mistaken, it should do it automatically. however, that's why i want people to give me a heads up so i can make sure everything goes where it's supposed to.

            1. If treated as a gift instead of a purchase, the person giving the money would bear the fees.

I have never had an issue with PayPal, but I also wouldn't use it for an major purchases.

  2. And I can make a plaque *cough*finishthehallplaques^*cough* to hang in the lobby.

^Sh!t, I lost the template in the last crash. Start from scratch, again.

  3. i'm not going to get in specifics yet, but we're off to a very decent start.

seriously though, wait until the pledge drive begins in earnest, you guys. πŸ˜‰
