1. For most of the good things mentioned here, there are equally distasteful things.

2. Got an interview in Prague. Now to find flights.

      1. Flight booked. Flying out of Des Moines for the same price as O'Hare, connecting through O'Hare. Just saved me a big hassle getting to Chicago, then to the airport.

         1. when you passing through (and for how long)?

            1. Next Friday, for about 2 hours.

               1. hmm, most likely, i don't think i can manage anything. and if you're passing through friday afternoon, then i really don't think i can manage anything. best i can do is tell you that goose island has a little shop set up in the C concourse where you can most likely grab a wine glass of matilda (they're fancy there), but i'm guessing you already knew that.

                  i miss the days when you could just walk into the airport, ticket or no...

                  1. I'd love to meet up with you again, but there's no way I'm leaving the secure area with that little of a window.

                     1. nor would i recommend it. i work right next to ORD; there isn't shite around there anyway.

                        still though, most international departures go through C. go grab some matilda.

3. I went over to the Twins' Hot Stove page at mlb.com. We've had Doumit and Carroll for so long I'd honestly forgotten all about having them. That probably means it's time for baseball to start.

   1. Hell. Yes. Baseball withdrawal is awful. I've been watching games from last season to feed the beast. But last season was . . . sad puppies and stuff.

      

      1. I've been listening to games from 2009. Much more fun than last year.

   2. Yeah, I suppose we should bone up on the offseason moves before tomorrow.

4. I'm going to the Wolves game tonight. I'm really excited about it. Particularly because my roommate is loaning me his Rubio Barcelona Joventut jersey to wear. I'd prefer a Pekovic Montenegro jersey, but oh well.

6. Apparently the Twins signed Luke French to a minor league deal today. He seemed like a reasonable prospect for the Tigers a while ago (at least in a swing man role), but it looks like he regressed with the Mariners. Could be a good pick up for Rochester or a reasonable option for emergency starts.

   1. He falls into the "doesn't hurt to take a look" category, at least. Looking at his stats, I wonder if he has an injury history.

      1. Didn't we invite about a hundred "doesn't hurt to take a look" pitchers to Spring Training?

         1. I'd actually only be somewhat surprised to be invited myself at this point.

         2. From what I understand, French actually signed a minor league deal, which is more commitment than just a spring training invititation. Presumably the team invites a ton of pitchers at least in part to give the hitters more live pitchers to hit off of.

7. Cleveland's League Park to be renovated:

   City Architecture is wrapping up plans that include restoring the ticket house and a bleacher wall and creating a Major League-size diamond in the same place as the original. Home plate will go in the exact spot where it rested the day that Babe Ruth whacked his 500th career home run in 1929.

         I am writing to express my dislike of Babe Ruth and, more specifically, his history of being a petulant snollygoster.

         For those of you who like to eat dessert before the soup, my conclusion is that we need to educate others about the slogans and canards of humorless polluters like Ruth.

         Still, I recommend you check out some of Ruth's indiscretions and draw your own conclusions on the matter. To end on a more positive note: Incorrigibility is rapidly becoming the rule of the day.

            1. I would love it in a presidential debate if one of the candidates referred to another as a snollygoster.

8. Check out the K/9 leaderboard from 1924.

   1. Won the MVP award. Good Lord, I should think so.

      1. Hornsby disagrees.

         1. Wow. I may have skipped directly to the pitching portion of those numbers.

            1. Hornsby had nothing to whine about. He only led the league in runs, hits, doubles, walks, avg, OBP, SLG, OPS+ and total bases. Pfft.

               1. Had Hornsby already won? Back then, previous MVP winners were ineligible (rule changed in 1929), which explains Babe Ruth's one (1) lifetime award. (No, Hornsby hadn't already won. He got his in 1925 and then again in 1929.)

                  1. No. He did win in 1925 and 1929 though.

                     1. It seems previous winners were only ineligible in the AL 1922-1928. There was no AL award in 1929, no award for either league for 1930, and then the BBWAA took over in 1931.

   2. Chris Carpenter pitch 237.1 innings last year, that led the NL. He would of finished 9th place in innings pitched in 1924

10. Synchronizing viewpoints on Assassin's Creed makes me half-nauseous sometimes.

    1. I can't believe how easily I can empathize with this out-of-left-field comment.

       1. I more-or-less have the house to myself until Sunday afternoon and my brother's XBox just got back from Red Ring repairs, so I've been playing the latest edition all day.

11. So, you want to scratch that itch? For a good time, make it the back or ankle.

12. So, Chuck is done. The last two seasons were up and down, but I'm really going to miss that show.

    1. I have a couple of weeks to catch up on. Thanks for not spilling all the beans.

       1. Oh, I wouldn't do that, it's only been done for a little over an hour.

          I'll probably discuss more whenever the next movie day is, but it'll obviously be all spoiler'd.
