Spurs @ Timberwolves

The Spurs come to Target Center with a 12-6 record, but only 2-6 on the road. The Wolves are 8-10 on the year and 4-6 at home. The last time these two teams met the Wolves were on the winning end, but also had Michael Beasley scoring points. Good news for the Wolves is that it sounds like the team is getting healthier now with Ridnour expected back and we might see Martell Webster and Brad Miller play some minutes. Beas is a game time decision.

  1. Wolves now with 5 turnovers in their first 3 possessions. I wouldn't have even thought that was possible.

  2. fact: coming into the game Pek! had 2 more defensive rebounds (108) than offensive rebounds (106) in his short career, and had a 16/5 off. reb to def. reb. split this season

    1. I wonder if there's ever been another player with rebound #'s like that- I can't imagine it's a sustainable trend, but Pek's done it for a few years, right?

    1. I was just about to comment on this. I looked at the floor and said "who do we have out there?" It just looked weird.

      1. i know, i just wanted to show it off a little. 😉 this seemed like the right place to do it.

  3. I hate it when a player misses a shot and Hanneman says "he couldn't pull the trigger." He did pull the trigger dude, he just missed the shot.

  4. Hanneman: Tim Duncan, one of the best, if not the best, of all time.

Does anyone think Tim Duncan is the best player of all time?

        1. really?

I'd have to think real hard about Karl Malone vs Duncan for best PF (McHale is close behind)

                  1. Malone's career WS/48 was .205. That included marks of .155, .182 and .151 his last three seasons.

Remove those years and his career WS/48 through his age-37 season was .2116. Duncan, in his age-35 season is at .215 for his career. So, yea, unless he cranks it up this year (he's at a career-worst-by-far .120 so far this season), he's pretty clearly going to drop below Malone before he retires.

Duncan has had double-digit win shares in 12 of his 14 seasons. Malone had 14 double-digit win share seasons in 19 years.

That doesn't change my opinion. If I had to choose between the two at their peaks, I'd choose Duncan. Not by much, but still, I'd choose him.

    1. At the start of the game, he at least classified it under power forwards, though I disagreed then too.

        1. Absolutely. My first guess was Barkley, who seems to be roughly equal now with Duncan. After looking up Duncan I remembered Malone and it's not even close.

            1. 12.  Moses Malone
              11.  Shaquille O’Neal
              10.  Hakeem Olajuwon
              9.  Oscar Robertson
              8.  Jerry West
              7.  Tim Duncan
              6.  Wilt Chamberlain
              5.  Larry Bird
              4.  Magic Johnson
              3.  Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
              2.  Bill Russell
              1.  Michael Jordan

              Duncan > Shaquille? That's ridiculous.

                1. definitely NOT "more interesting to watch". but technically beautiful, yes. There's a reason they call him "the Big Fundamental".

                  1. Kareem
                  2. Wilt
                  3. MJ
                  4. Oscar
                  5. Russell
                  6. West
                  7. Shaq
                  8. Bird
                  9. Magic
                  10. Dr. J
                  11. Hakeem
                  12. Duncan
                  13. Malone/Barkley
                  15. McHale

I'm sure that if I thought harder about this, I'd shuffle names around some more

                  1. I would say he's comfortably more interesting to watch than Shaq. O'Neal, like any huge brute who pounded it inside, is the only type of player less interesting to me than Duncan.

                  2. Duncan is a shell of his former self at 35. Malone played until he was 40. If Duncan plays 5 more years, his WS/48 will be safely under Malone's. But yes, Shaquille was a lot more entertaining than Duncan.

                    1. Shaq had absolutely fantastic footwork. yes, he was a huge brute, but man, he had great footwork.

and not entertaining? Dude, haven't you seen Kazaam??

but seriously, he had/has a very entertaining personality.

    2. Once upon a time, Dirk won an MVP award. So by that logic, it's not too much of a stretch to call him the best of all time.

  5. They've got some TNT halftime show going on on League Pass. Wow, Shaq is really, really annoying. I used to think he was funny. Apparently he's only funny with a healthy dose of editing.

    1. I've been thinking. I wonder if that dog collar thing from that soccer video yesterday would work to make him quit f'in shooting.

        1. They may not need it, as I think Williams is slowly making Beasley more or less irrelevant.

      1. Oh I know, that's what I'm annoyed about. I was under the impression that whiny stuff was being cracked down on, but apparently it was just to make sure Rasheed Wallace never played again.

        1. Remember that playoff game where he got ejected just for looking at the ref? Good times.

    1. LOL, I was about to make the same exact joke. I was just waiting for davidwatts to post again.

        1. Although, in defense of the Mavs broadcast crew, one of them said he feels the Wolves will be much better much sooner than Lob City after the game the other night.

    1. It helps when Rubio and Love is enough to keep the Alpha Dog on the bench near the end of the game.

  6. I love Rubio tossing the ball into the air to end games. It is so dastardly.

    1. Seriously, I don't know about you guys, but I can't wait for New Guy's reaction to this tomorrow.

          1. Too bad that guy thought he deserved PEK!'s spot on the all time greats list. We could have had a lot of great years with KG in his prime.

            1. Oh man, that would have been awesome. That might even have been able to overcome horribly biased officiating.

        1. It is different. The team is a lot different and I'm at a different place in my life. Plus, there's nothing like a healthy dose of losing to make you appreciate having a team that can play well.

            1. That sounds about right. Hopefully they can stay competitive for as long as the Twins did.

  7. Heh, the sub header on ESPN right now:

The Heat have Dwyane Wade back in the lineup Friday. But even without Carmelo Anthony, the Knicks are keeping pace in Miami.

    1. If it were up to me, the header would be:

PEK! outduels Duncan in battle of future HOFers.

    2. It makes me wonder if there's a mandate to promote Anthony as one of the league's figureheads. If sportswriters are watching, they have to see that Carmelo is an extremely flawed player, yes?

      1. There has to be an element of laziness to it. Carmelo leads the Orange to an NCAA title, is a high draft pick, he scores a bunch of points in Denver to mixed/little success, he wants to play in NY to join the Knicks resurgence. SUPERSTAR!!!

  8. I can't believe Pek was available in the WGOM league until 30 seconds ago.

              1. Yeah, don't waste your time, Buffalo, he's holding on to Howard with an iron grip, which is the same thing Howard does with his free throws.

                1. I'll move Howard if I get the right offer- unfortunately, he's most of my blocks and a good chunk of my rebounds right now, so I'm going to be putting up with the bricked FT's for now. Luckily, even if I trade Howard, I still have Blake Griffin missing half his FT's to keep my % nice and low.

  9. nice stat from AP guy Jonny K (if you arent following him on Twitter, you should!)

    APkrawczynski Jon Krawczynski
Final: #Twolves 87, #Spurs 79. Wolves held spurs to 1 FG in last 7 mins, only turned ball over twice in 2nd half.
