Pitching stars: Daryl Thompson gave up a run in five innings, allowing four hits and three walks. Tyler Robertson worked two shutout innings, striking out three while giving up two hits.
Opposition star: Francisco Cervelli was 3-for-5.
Key inning: The eighth. Trailing 4-1, the Yankees scored once and loaded the bases with two out. Anthony Slama caught Kevin Russo looking to end the inning.

Key inning: The fourth. Down 1-0, the Rock Cats came back to score three times on three singles, a walk, and an error.

Key inning: The seventh. Leading 3-2, Adams hit a two-run triple to put the game out of reach for the Cougars.
BELOIT 3, KANE COUNTY 2 IN BELOIT (GAME 2—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Pitching star: A. J. Achter struck out six in three perfect innings of relief.
Opposition star: Edwin Carl struck out seven in five innings, giving up two unearned runs on five hits and a walk.
Key inning: The seventh. Down 2-1, the Cougars put together two singles and two sacrifices to tie the game. Rory Rhodes opened the bottom of the seventh with a walk. Pinch-runner Adam Pettersen stole second, took third on a wild pitch, and scored on another wild pitch to win the game.
