Minor Details: Games of 4/19

Twins affiliates get swept.  Mike Hollimon has a big night.  B. J. Hermsen pitches well again.  The Secret Agent Man sinks the Snappers.

SCRANTON/WILKES-BARRE 5, ROCHESTER 3 IN ROCHESTER (YANKEE HOME GAME)

Batting starsMike Hollimon tripled and homered.  Ben Revere and Darin Mastroianni each had two hits.

Pitching starEsmerling Vasquez gave up a run on two hits and three walks in three innings.

Opposition stars:  Colin Curtis had two hits.  Steve Pearce hit a three-run homer.  Adam Warren allowed a run on four hits and two walks in six innings.

Key inning:  The fifth.  Hollimon tripled and scored to tie the game at one in the top of the inning.  The Yankees had two on with two out in the bottom of the inning when Pearce hit his three-run shot to give SWB the lead for good.

Other:  The Red Wings made three errors.  Rochester has gone six consecutive games without a home run.

NEW HAMPSHIRE 6, NEW BRITAIN 5 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting starsEvan Bigley was 2-for-4 with a triple and a walk, driving in two.  Chris Colabello was 2-for-4 and Estarlin De Los Santos was 2-for-5.

Pitching star:  None.

Opposition stars:  Kevin Howard was 4-for-5 and drove in three.  Aaron Loup worked three shutout innings, giving up three hits and a walk.

Key inning:  The eighth.  Down 5-3, the Rock Cats scored twice to tie the game and had runners on first and third with two out.  Aaron Hicks struck out to end the inning.  The Fisher Cats went on to score in the ninth and win the game.

Other:  Fisher Cats starter Brett Cecil left the game in the first inning with a leg injury.  New Hampshire used five relief pitchers to finish the game.

BRADENTON 2, FORT MYERS 1 IN FORT MYERS (10 INNINGS)

Batting star:  Daniel Rohlfing was 3-for-4.
Pitching starsB. J. Hermsen gave up one run on five hits and a walk in seven innings while striking out six.  Edgar Ibarra pitched two perfect innings of relief.

Opposition stars:  Dan Grovatt was 2-for-4.  Jameson Taillon gave up a run on four hits while striking out six in five innings.  Eliecer Navarro struck out three in three shutout innings of relief.

Key inning:  The tenth.  With the score tied at one, a walk, a bunt, and another single plated the winning run for the Marauders.  In the bottom of the inning, Lance Ray walked with one out.  Anderson Hidalgo followed with a double to center, but Ray was thrown out trying to score from first.

SOUTH BEND 12, BELOIT 10 IN SOUTH BEND

Batting starsDanny Ortiz was 3-for-5.  Miguel Sano was 2-for-4 with a home run (his sixth) and a walk, scoring three times.

Pitching star:  None.

Opposition stars:  Ender Inciarte was 4-for-4 with three doubles and three runs.  Matt Helm was 3-for-5 with a double.  Seth Simmons struck out three in 2.2 scoreless innings.

Key inning:  The eighth.  With the score tied at ten, the Silver Hawks had a runner on first with two out.  Helm doubled to give South Bend the lead and Bobby Stone singled to bring in an insurance run.

Other:  The Snappers made two errors in the fourth inning, leading to eight runs, six of them unearned.  How did I not know the Silver Hawks have a third baseman named Matt Helm?
