Minor Details: Games of 4/20

A big day for Miguel Sano.  Drew Butera is a hero.  The Snappers have another offensive explosion.

ROCHESTER 5, LEHIGH VALLEY 2 IN ROCHESTER

Batting starsMike Hollimon was 3-for-4.  Drew Butera was 2-for-3 with a double, driving in two.  Darin Mastroianni was 2-for-4 and scored twice.

Pitching starsP. J. Walters gave up two runs six hits and two walks in 5.1 innings.  Jeff Manship struck out three in two shutout innings while giving up four hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Tuffy Gosewisch was 3-for-4 with a home run.  Brian Sanches worked 2.1 scoreless innings.

Key inning:  The fifth.  Trailing 2-1, the first four Red Wings reached base, with Butera hitting a two-run double to put Rochester ahead.  Tsuyoshi Nishioka tripled in Butera to provide an insurance run.

OtherButera also threw out two attempted base stealers.

NEW BRITAIN 7, NEW HAMPSHIRE 3 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting starsDeibinson Romero and Pedro Florimon each hit a three run homer.  James Beresford was 2-for-3.

Pitching starsDeolis Guerra and Daniel Turpen each pitched two shutout innings, each striking out two while giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Brad Glenn was 2-for-3.  Jonathan Diaz hit a two run homer.

Key inning:  The eighth.  Tied at three, Evan Bigley and Chris Colabello hit back-to-back doubles to give the Rock Cats the lead.  Following an intentional walk to Romero, Florimon hit a three run homer to put the game out of reach.

Other:  Ex-Twin Yohan Pino was a last-minute starter for the Fisher Cats.  He replaced scheduled starter Drew Hutchison, who was called up to Toronto.

BRADENTON 4, FORT MYERS 3 IN BRADENTON

Batting starJosmil Pinto hit a home run, his second.

Pitching starMatt Hauser pitched a scoreless inning of relief, giving up a hit and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Drew Maggi was 2-for-4 with a home run.  Josh Poytress and Quinton Miller each worked two shutout innings of relief.

Key inning:  The seventh.  Maggi led off the inning with a home run to break a 3-3 tie.  The Miracle did not get a baserunner after that.

BELOIT 13, SOUTH BEND 3 IN SOUTH BEND

Batting starsMiguel Sano was 4-for-5 with three doubles.  JaDamion Williams was 3-for-6 and scored three times.

Pitching starsJason Wheeler allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks in six innings.  A. J. Achter struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Chris Ellison was 3-for-5.  Ender Inciarte was 2-for-3 with a double.

Key inning:  The fourth. Down 2-1, an error, a single, and a bunt put runners on second and third with one out.  Adam Pettersen doubled, Jonathan Goncalves tripled, and Sano doubled to give the Snappers a 5-2 lead.

Other:  The Snappers had three four-run innings:  the fourth, the seventh, and the ninth.  Beloit has scored 23 runs in two games and 29 runs in three games.
