Minor Details: Games of 5/8

A strong outing by Liam Hendriks.  The Rock Cats rally in the ninth.  Miguel Sano goes deep for the tenth time.

ROCHESTER 3, PAWTUCKET 1 IN PAWTUCKET

Batting starsBen Revere was 2-for-4.  Matt Carson was 1-for-2 with three walks.  Pedro Florimon hit his first home run.

Pitching starsLiam Hendriks struck out eight in 5.2 innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks.  Deolis Guerra worked 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up only one hit.

Opposition star:  Tony Pena, Jr. pitched two shutout innings of relief.

Key inning:  The third.  In a scoreless tie, Florimon homered to lead off the inning.  Darin Mastroianni singled, went to second on an error, and took third on a Ben Revere single.  The two runners then executed a double steal, with Revere taking second and Mastroianni stealing home to put the Red Wings up 2-0.  The Red Sox would never get closer than two runs.

NEW BRITAIN 4, BINGHAMTON 3 IN BINGHAMTON

Batting starsChris Colabello was 2-for-3 with a walk.  James Beresford was 2-for-3.  Nathan Hanson delivered a pinch-hit two run double.

Pitching starDaniel Turpen struck out two in two innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Juan Lagares was 2-for-3 with a double.  Mark Cohoon allowed only an unearned run on four hits and no walks while striking out five in six innings.  Bradley Holt worked two shutout innings.

Key inning:  The ninth.  Trailing 3-1, the Rock Cats had two runners on base with two out.  Estarlin De Los Santos singled to make it 3-2 and put runners on first and third.  Hanson then pinch hit and doubled, driving in the tying and go-ahead runs.  Turpen then retired the Mets in the bottom of the inning.

DUNEDIN 16, FORT MYERS 4 IN DUNEDIN

Batting starsDaniel Santana was 3-for-4.  Anderson Hidalgo was 2-for-4.  Levi Michael was 2-for-5 and drove in two.

Pitching starRicky Bowen pitched two shutout innings, giving up only a walk.

Opposition stars:  Marcus Knecht was 4-for-5 with two home runs, driving in five.  Ryan Schimpf was 3-for-5 with a double and a homer.  Sean Nolin allowed only an unearned run in six innings, giving up five hits and a walk while striking out five.

Key inning:  The third.  Already leading 3-0, the Blue Jays exploded for seven runs.  A walk, four singles, two doubles, and a home run produced the runs.  All but one of the runs was charged to Madison Boer, whose line reads nine runs on eight hits and two walks in two innings.

Other:  All eleven Miracle hits were singles.

KANE COUNTY 4, BELOIT 3 IN BELOIT

Batting starWang Wei-Lin was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Adam Pettersen was 2-for-5.  Miguel Sano hit a two run homer, his tenth.

Pitching starDavid Hurlbut worked three shutout innings, giving up two hits.

Opposition stars:  Justin Trapp was 3-for-4.  Edwin Carl went five shutout innings, striking out six while allowing five hits and two walks.  Matt Ridings struck out four in two perfect innings.

Key inning:  The ninth.  Down 4-2, Drew Leachman singled and Tyler Grimes was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second with one out.  A wild pitch advanced them to second and third.  Lin grounded out to score one, but Pettersen fanned to end the game.
