Minor Details: Games of 5/25

A slugfest in Rochester.  The Sherriff arrests the Miracle offense.  Two Twins are ejected.

GWINNETT 13, ROCHESTER 8 IN GWINNETT

Batting starSean Burroughs was 2-for-4 with two doubles, driving in four.  Matt Carson was 2-for-4 and was hit by a pitch.  Tsuyoshi Nishioka was 2-for-5 with a walk.

Pitching stars:  None.

Opposition stars:  Stefan Gartrell was 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, and a walk, scoring four times and driving in three.  Jose Constanza was 3-for-5 with a double, driving in three.  Ernesto Mejia was 2-for-5 with a home run, driving in four.

Key inning:  The eighth.  Leading 10-8, the Braves loaded the bases with two out.  Mejia delivered a two-run single, with a third run scoring on a throwing error.  The Red Wings were never in the game again.

OtherDanny Valencia was thrown out of the game in the fourth inning after being called out on strikes.

NEW BRITAIN AT PORTLAND

The game has been suspended in the fourth inning with the Rock Cats leading 1-0.  It will be finished this afternoon, with the regularly scheduled game to follow.

PALM BEACH 6, FORT MYERS 2 IN FORT MYERS

Batting starJosmil Pinto hit a home run, one of two Miracle hits.

Pitching starCole Nelson gave up a run on two hits and two walks in three innings.

Opposition stars:  Jonathan Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a double, driving in three.  Ryan Sherriff allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit and three walks, striking out five in six innings.

Key inning:  The ninth.  Leading 4-2, the Cardinals used a double, an error, a stolen base, and a single to score twice and put the game out of reach.

CEDAR RAPIDS 5, BELOIT 4 (12 INNINGS)

Batting starsKyle Kundson was 2-for-5 with a double, driving in two.  Eddie Rosario was 2-for-5.  Drew Leachman was 2-for-6.

Pitching starMichael Tonkin worked two shutout innings, allowing only two walks while striking out two.

Opposition stars:  Kaleb Cowart was 4-for-5 with a double.  Matthew Scioscia was 2-for-5.

Key inning:  The twelfth.  With the score tied at four, Andy Workman hit a two out homer to put the Kernels in front.  Adam Bryant led off the bottom of the twelfth and took third on a sacrifice bunt, but was thrown out trying to score on an infield grounder.  Snappers manager Nelson Prada argued the call and was ejected from the game.
