Minor Details: Games of 6/4

A sweep in Rochester.  Is Miguel Sano heating up again?  Another bad outing for Tim Shibuya.

ROCHESTER 2, COLUMBUS 1 (COMPLETION OF SUSPENDED GAME)

Batting starChris Parmelee was 2-for-4 with a double.

Pitching starsDeolis Guerra struck out three in three shutout innings, giving up only one hit.  Lester Oliveros allowed two hits in two shutout innings.

Opposition stars:  Russ Canzler was 2-for-4.  Matt Langwell retired all eight batters he faced.

Key inning:  The eighth.  In a 1-1 game, Sean Burroughs walked and went to third on a Parmelee single with none out.  The next two batters fanned, but Matt Carson singled to give the Red Wings the lead.

Other:  Nick Blackburn started, but pitched only 2.1 innings before being removed following a rain delay.  He surrendered one run on two hits and a walk.

ROCHESTER 4, COLUMBUS 0 IN ROCHESTER (GAME 2--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting starsWilkin Ramirez was 2-for-3 with a two run homer, his first.  Chris Parmelee was 2-for-3 with a homer, his fourth.

Pitching starLiam Hendriks threw a complete game shutout, striking out eight while yielding just four hits and a walk.

Opposition star:  Ezequiel Carrera was 2-for-2 with a walk.

Key inning:  The sixth.  Leading 1-0, the Red Wings got homers from both Parmelee and Ramirez to take a commanding 4-0 lead.

DAYTONA 8, FORT MYERS 3 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  Daniel Santana was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple.  Michael Gonzalez was 2-for-3 with a double.

Pitching stars:  None.  The pitching was absolutely boo.

Opposition stars:  Nelson Perez was 3-for-4.  Frank Del Valle gave up one run on four hits and a walk in six innings.

Key inning:  The first.  A double, a single, and another double plated two runs with only one out before the Miracle batted.

WISCONSIN 9, BELOIT 8 IN BELOIT

Batting stars:  Miguel Sano was 2-for-5 with a double and a home run, his fourteenth.  He drove in three.  Tyler Grimes was 2-for-3 with a double.  Eddie Rosario was 2-for-4.

Pitching star:  David Hurlbut struck out four in two shutout innings, allowing one hit.

Opposition stars:  Nick Ramirez was 2-for-5 with a double and a grand slam, driving in five for the game.  Brandon Macias was 2-for-5 with a double and a triple.  Mark Williams struck out six in four innings, surrendering only one run on three hits and two walks.

Key inning:  The fourth.  After the Timber Rattlers had tied the score at five in the top of the third, the Snappers re-took the lead 6-5 in the bottom.  In the fourth, however, Wisconsin scored twice to take a lead they would not relinquish.  All the damage came with two out, as Chadwin Stang walked, Macias tripled, and Max Walla singled.

Other:  Tim Shibuya had another bad outing.  The suspicion lingers that he may be hiding an injury...The Timber Rattlers will have their Salute to Cows on Wednesday.  You get a cow and cheese patterned baseball and are promised "plenty of cow and dairy related fun".

DSL ORIOLES 11, TWINS 6 AT ORIOLES

Batting stars:  Ernesto Ciprian and Adonis Pacheco were each 2-for-5 with a double.

Pitching star:  Rayson Zoquiel struck out four in three innings, yielding a run on four hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Oscar Vasquez was 2-for-4 with a triple.  Junior Tavares was 2-for-4 with a double, driving in three.  Rochendrick Alexander was 2-for-4 with a double.

Key inning:  The eighth.  Trailing 8-5, the Twins scored once and put a runner in scoring position with one out, but did not tally again.  The Orioles responded with three in the bottom of the inning to put the game out of reach.

  1. The status of Minor Details will be day-to-day for the rest of the week. I leave tomorrow morning for annual conference, and I don't know how much time I'll have to work on it while I'm there. I'll post when I can, and unless something unexpected happens, I'll be back to the regular schedule next week.
