  1. They're still playing basketball? Are the finals scheduled to coincide with the 4th of July holiday, or next season's training camp?

    1. with the Wolves out and the baseball season in full swing (even though the Twins have played some miserable baseball until late) I have paid very little attention to the NBA and the NHL.

  2. Netherlands - Denmark is on right now. For those that didn't listen to the pod*, today's games are really good. This is followed by Portugal - Germany at 1:30PM.

*And judging by the comments, that's everyone but me and free.

    1. I did watch the second half of the Netherlands-Denmark match. Didn't seem like the Dutch had many chances, though there were several very close plays. I think the Danes were defending for the majority of the second half. I'm not sure if they had more than one or two corners the entire time.

  3. Quite the sports day:

    French Open Women's Final
    Euro 2012 matches (x2)
    Belmont Stakes
    Twins/Cubs
    Stanley Cup Game 5
    NBA Conf. Finals Game 7

ETA - Boxing has a big fight too

  4. Well crap, but I can't more than chuckle.

Rather than ever stay late at work (and realizing my inability to get up any earlier (without waking up the rest of the family)), when I've needed to get extra work done, I've generally done it at home after my kids go to sleep, either by e-mailing myself files or thumbdrives, or a remote destop situation (when required due to PII)). Since my computer went down, I've been unable to do that (the ad-driven excel on the netbook gives me about 30 square inches, and it's not really enough for what I need it to be able to do. My boss suggested I borrow a loaner laptop, hook it up to my monitor, and get this project done by Monday. (In his best passive-aggressive Minnesota Nice.) (There's no hard deadline, but it's lingered and he's rightly bothered that upcoming projects with either push it back to backburner status, or the new projects will take lower priority.)

Well, I had the laptop up and running for about an hour (connecting to the internet was some sort of problem that I couldn't understand but by repeating the same on/detect/off cycle for the modem, it finally did work). I got that running just as I had to leave to take the kids to the dentist. Back, and a little casual web surfing, then I inserted the thumb drive to copy my files over. Baby cried, I went up, came back down, checked a few more twitter and wgom updates, and then it shut itself down, without a warning (that I saw) or any action on my part.

As it restarts, it goes to a black screen with white text about Drive Encryption. "The system boot information has changed since [encryption] was enabled. You must supply a [encryption] recovery key to start this system." 48 numeric digits that I definitely don't have. I reconnect the netbook, search and search my emails for the IT contact info, and call. The weekend guy doesn't have a recovery key for me. He's calling the on-call guy, but I just burnt at least 90 minutes of the naptime I was planning to use.

I just think the laptop told me to enjoy the rest of my weekend and blame my computer on Monday. "The laptop ate my homework" only with a service ticket for proof. EAR has really been trying to get the family to rest on Sundays as a way of honoring the Sabbath. Working tomorrow will make me look like a hypocrite if I do it while the kids are awake, so I'm not doing that.

I think it's funny and now I'm gonna get another beer...

    1. now I'm gonna get another beer...

well, there's your answer right there.

      1. So: grad party, bathe & feed the baby, feed the toddler, try to light a fire under the asses of the 6 & almost 9 yos to shower. Then I'm off to run some quick errands before 10pm*. EAR has crashed in front of the TV, I volunteer to feed the baby again, and now I see an e-mail from IT that the weekend guys don't have the rights to find my recovery key. They could call the on-call guy and get him to do it. But now it's nearly midnight on Saturday, I don't know how long that will take or what the costs are. I haven't replied yet, but I just cracked another beer and I'm not gonna. I'll send an email tomorrow after 11am church that it would hardly pay now.

(I think I asked myself WWCKD? too many times. I failed at the music selection, going for my own mix The second-best of Bonnie "Prince" Billy, when given the choices, Klosterman would have gone with the Alice in Chains. But I made up for that once I ran into Melissa Maerz. I'll have some awkward things to explain to EAR tomorrow morning.)

*12 pack Schells Stout, 6 pack each Breckinridge Vanilla Porter** & Summit S´ga IPA
**I really detest fruit beers, but apparently I've got no problem with Other flavors. I do feel a bit girly but it tastes sooo good and smooth. Like a Root Beer Float.

  5. The Minnesota Twins are two games behind the Detroit Tigers.

    1. As it stands right now the Twins have the longest current winning streak in the AL at 3 games.

  6. Good news, everybody. My second batch Of black ipa is going into the bottles.

      1. In about 20 to 30 minutes i hope to come back with an initial taste impression. I changed the hops up slightly in a way i'm very excited about.

      2. Oooh, i'm feeling even better about this one. The tropical fruit on the back end is still ther, but its got a drier finish with an almost peppery spice in there. I'll be eagerly awaitimg to taste it once its conditioned.

  7. I really hope the Heat win tonight so Stick and I have something to talk about next week.

    1. I did just turn it on, and the first thing I saw was a trailer for Total Recall. GODDAMMIT, TOTAL RECALL DID NOT NEED TO BE REMADE! No Ironside means it'll suck.

      1. I just don't care about remakes anymore. I used to think there was a time when Hollywood didn't constantly do remakes, but that time never existed. It's just business anyway.

        1. True enough, and I suppose I'm not going to be forced to watch it. But still, when they start remaking all the Arnold movies that were actually good, they've got their priorities all screwed up.

        2. There was a time, and it probably ended when nothing after the 20s went into the public domain.

  8. I thought Lebron was going to get T'd up there for trying to kick Rondo in the head.
