        1. You read the comments, didn't you? Nothing like a dose of parody to lighten the mood.

    1. We keep hearing that the Twins have sunk under the anchor of Mauer's $23 million annual contract. Hogwash. I'd rather see $23 million spent on an outstanding catcher and hitter, than $8 million used on an average starting pitcher and $15 million back in ownership's pocket (which was the likely scenario).

I wonder if Reusse ever thinks about how much of a clown his co-worker is when writes a column like this.

        1. It would have been pretty great if he had snuck one in, or a Kardashian reference, make it real obvious who he was really talking to. (and I suspect that at least a good portion of his reasoning for writing that could be a dig at TJ.)

          1. I think it's possible, which is part of why I love Mr. Reusse, even if he thinks that OPS is a "made up stat".

                1. I think the percentage was much higher than that in the comments section. I'll have nightmares tonight for sure.

    1. Stupid west coast games, making me not realize a perfect game was in progress until after everyone celebrated.

    2. No kidding... my cousin was at that game too! No lie! His facebook post was him and his family with all the Giants celebrating in the background at the mound (like a reverse photobomb)

I wonder if we'll start a lot of fake "uh.. yeah... my cousin was there too... " posts.

      1. My friend was at the game in Colorado last night. Cuddyer hit two home runs. That's as cool, right?

        1. And another with his [redacted][redacted] like a [redacted] that's [redacted][redacted][redacted] two [redacted][redacted] with his mom's [redacted].

            1. It's kind of an Arrested Development joke crammed into this format. It doesn't make a ton of sense, I just thought it'd be funny to suggest that he also had some inappropriate pictures up.

  1. Actual poll question at KFAN.com today:

Which 2012 Twins starting pitcher is most likely to throw a Perfect Game sometime in their career?

Why not just add my name to that list?

  2. This morning I had another one of those infuriating interactions at work that make me want to find other employment. It was frustrating. Not two minutes later I got a call for a second interview. It was redeeming. Today is a good day.

          1. I find some of that logic to be less-than-decisive.
Single was released in Feb '93, but the album in November '92, and was obviously recorded before then.

That said, it should be the Lakers-over-Sonics most recently preceding the LA Riots, which seems to match his date anyways (didn't check the basketball games).

  3. I'm not into boxing, but I hear that the Manny Pacquiao decision was a little, um, controversial. The story I hear is that the late money all went to Bradley. Now, the WBO is going to "investigate".

The first surprise came when ring announcer Michael Buffer announced that there was a split decision, and the biggest surprise came in the reading of the scores. Jerry Roth had it 115-113 for Pacquiao, while judges Duane Ford and C.J. Ross had it for Bradley by the same score.

The Associated Press scored the fight 117-111 for Pacquiao.

If the federal government is willing to spend tens of millions of $dollars to prosecute Clemens and Bonds, they better start looking into this one.

    1. No need for the federal government. I'm sure the people who run boxing will leave no stone unturned to assure their sport remains on the up-and-up, just as it always has been.

  4. The rug, and the other shoe, have been dropped and pulled on our house hunt. The land lord is telling us that he's too busy to draft a lease, but he'll e-mail us one after we drop off the remainder of the deposit and the first month's rent. Right. I'm going to give you north of 2 grand without a legal document of any sort as to what you're providing me with. Plan b is to take the joint that is way too expensive, but perfect. Absolutely. Boo.

    1. What about plan c: get an apartment that costs less and use that money on a gun for protection.

But seriously, that blows, meat. Here's to hoping something crazy happens for the good with your housing situation soon.

          1. Twice monthly updates scheduled between third Monday movies and first Wednesday trade speculation.

    2. A question for the lawyer types. I know this doesn't constitute legal advice, and that none of what of what you tell me will hold water in a rainstorm, but if we cancel a check that was laid in deposits with no contract between us are we exposed to being sued? We put a deposits down to rent a space, gave an application, but didn't sign anything saying that the deposits was non refundable. Dr. Chop called to cancel the check after I tried to call the dude to tell him we're backing out. I left a message describing our dissatisfaction, but haven't heard back. Any thoughts here would be appreciated.

      1. Two questions:
Was the check labelled "For Deposit" or somesuch (like on the note line) and did the application describe the deposit requirement or amount in any way?

              1. Heh...no, I didn't notice. Too absorbed with my own bar struggles to be aware that I'm not the only one.
Edit - I realize (too late) that may not have been what your reference implied...

                1. Ah, no. Just rusty. Those studying for the bar are infinitely more qualified to answer contract & property questions than I am.

                    1. I practice don't-currently-practice-law law. It's very rewarding.

Mortgage pays the bills. [forbidden topic], oddly, keeps me sane.

          1. The reason I ask is that he could argue it was an application fee vs. a deposit. An oral contract (such as an agreement to lease property for $X per month for a term of X months + a security deposit of $X - all of which were part of the negotiations with the landlord) can be binding on both parties. The terms of that contract are what would be at issue here. Was it a non-refundable "application fee" or a security deposit that would be returned at the conclusion of your lease period?
We're all, always subject to the possibility of a lawsuit...it's what the other guy needs to prove that is important here.

Also, I may be mistaken, but I think Philo does landlord-tenant or housing law.

              1. And of course by "your way" I meant "Meat's way."

                Has been sent.

Long story short, I think you can probably back out since LL almost certainly didn't materially change his position and because given the rental market as described on the WGOM it should be extremely easy for the LL to mitigate his damages. Other lawyers, that sound right?

            1. It was the sum total of one months rent as a security deposit to be returned at the end of the lease according to the landlords agent. We never saw a lease, nor we're we given the opportunity to see a lease, and we don't have time to come back tomorrow. We know he's a licensed agent, but what does that tell us?

              1. Alright, just got off the phone with the broker. He actually said, "let me educate you" and then described that no one uses paper leases anymore, and that he was doing me a favor by trying to arrange a time to meet in person to sign a lease. Holy balls. He told me that he'll shred the check, but that doesn't matter because we've already stopped payment.

The place we re going to rent is teh awesome. More than enough space for when citizens come to visit. They'll be a small fee associated.

                1. What neighborhood (if you don't mind me asking)?

Also, what's the over/under on how much weight you're going to gain living in NOLA before the next time I see you?

                  1. 1929 carrollton. Good apartment, shitty management.

Our new place is on danneel off Napoleon. Good, quite, safe ish neighborhood. Not as sexy as living near magazine, but the house is pretty awesome.

Honestly, I'd put the line at 10 pounds. The food in the shitties dive bars is better than almost anything I've ever eaten anywhere else.

            2. I would trust Philo's advice way more than I would give. CoC, sorry to hear that you'll be suffering with me this summer. Also, not to pester you, but there's an event you were invited to on the Book of Faces tomorrow to which you haven't responded. Would be great to see you, the Mrs. and the little one.

              1. Agreed. Thanks & Mrs. is in Napa for her sister's birthday this weekend but you quite likely will see me and the little one.

  5. I'm fairly certain the DMV makes things as complicated as possible. I went in to transfer the title to my new (and by new I mean 1995 Escort) car. I just sold my previous car last night, and I was going to keep the plates from that car to put them on my new car. My previous registration was good through 8/31/12. Instead of letting me transfer that over, or charging me a full year and giving me tags through 8/13, they gave me a credit of 2 months (despite the 2.5 remaining) which would be applied to my new registration which would only be effective through 5/31/12. I guess they basically charged me for 12 months to give me 11 months of registration? Frustrating.

      1. Actually I didn't have to! And I didn't have to wait in line.

The upside of this is that due to the proximity to Passage to India, I got to have killer Indian buffet for lunch. So it wasn't all bad.

    1. Lester Oliveros, acquired in the _elm_n trade, to be called up. So, we dumped _elm_n on a division rival and got a player that made it to the majors the next year?

      W.I.N.

  6. Hey guys. Sorry I was out of pocket so long. I ended up extending my mini-vacation by two days. I'm home now, so can we reschedule our NBA podcast recording?

    1. I think I am fully moved into my new house, which now has the internet, and can take part most evenings.

    1. Wow, that was one hell of a turn-around. Who gets the ball here, Durant or Westbrook?
