Minor Details: Games of 6/15

A strong outing for Cole DeVries.  The DSL Twins take advantage of five errors.  Snappy lost, but had a good run.

ROCHESTER 4, LOUISVILLE 1 IN LOUISVILLE

Batting starsWilkin Ramirez was 2-for-4 with a two run homer, his third.  Sean Burroughs was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.

Pitching starCole DeVries went seven shutout innings, giving up five hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Dioner Navarro was 2-for-4.  Chad Reineke allowed two runs on five hits and a walk in seven innings.

Key inning:  The eighth.  Leading 2-0, Danny Valencia walked with two out.  Matt Carson followed with a ground rule double, and Burroughs delivered a two run single.  The Bats countered with one in the bottom of the inning, but got no closer.

ERIE 5, NEW BRITAIN 2 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting starsChris Herrmann was 2-for-4 with a double.  Rene Tosoni was 2-for-4.

Pitching starsAaron Thompson gave up one run on five hits and two walks in six innings.  Caleb Thielbar struck out four in two shutout innings, allowing only one hit.

Opposition stars:  Rawley Bishop was 3-for-4.  Kelvin De La Cruz pitched a complete game, giving up two runs on six hits and two walks and throwing 94 pitches.

Key inning:  The eighth.  In a 2-2 tie, the SeaWolves tallied three times.  A double, a single, and an error plated one run.  A hit batsman loaded the bases, a single scored another, and a force out scored a third.

BELOIT 6, BURLINGTON 3 IN BELOIT

Batting starsNate Roberts was 3-for-5 with a double.  Steven Liddle was 2-for-4.  Matthew Koch was 1-for-1 with three walks.

Pitching starsA. J. Achter struck out six in three shutout innings, allowing two hits.  Corey Williams threw two shutout innings, giving up only a walk while striking out two.

Opposition stars:  Eliezer Mesa was 2-for-5 with a double.  Jonathan Joseph pitched three shutout innings.

Key inning:  The second.  Already ahead 2-1, the Snappers scored four times.  Three singles, a triple, a walk, and another single did the damage.  Tyler Grimes and Koch each had RBI singles and Drew Leachman hit an RBI triple.

OtherSnappy D. Turtle fell to Orbit, the mascot of the Albuquerque Isotopes, in the semifinals of Mascot Mania.  Congratulations to Snappy on an excellent tournament run.

DSL TWINS 7, DIAMONDBACKS 4

Batting starsAdonis Pacheco was 2-for-5 with a triple.  Dubal Baez was 2-for-5.

Pitching starsJavier Vargas gave up a run on three hits in three innings.  Jadison Jimenez walked one in a scoreless inning.

Opposition stars:  Ronny Mejias was 2-for-4 with two doubles.  Valentino Silvestre was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.

Key inning:  The seventh.  With the score tied at three, the Twins scored four times.  Two singles, a double, a triple, an error, and a pair of wild pitches (one on a strikeout) led to the runs.  Engelb Vielma hit a two run triple and Eddy Concepcion delivered an RBI double.

Other:  The Diamondbacks committed five errors in the game.

  1. Should I be surprised that Rene Tonsils is at AA rather than AAA? He was in the majors last year.

    1. Yes, but he didn't belong there. He really wasn't even any good at Rochester last year. He hasn't had a good year above AA, and given that he'll turn 26 in a couple of weeks, it's starting to look like he may never have one.
