Minor Details: Games of 6/24

The Red Wings play like dogs on Bark in the Park day.  New Britain gets the lone win.  Fort Myers is washed out.

CHARLOTTE 6, ROCHESTER 0 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  None.  The Red Wings offense consisted of two singles.

Pitching starsDeolis Guerra struck out three in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up no hits and two walks.  Bobby Lanigan worked a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Tyler Kuhn was 3-for-5 and scored three times.  Starter Deunte Heath pitched four innings, striking out three and allowing two hits.  Knights pitchers did not issue a walk in the game.

Key inning:  The first.  The Knights scored twice on four singles.  Rochester never threatened.

Other:  The Red Wings hosted eighty dogs on Bark in the Park day.

NEW BRITAIN 7, RICHMOND 3 IN RICHMOND

Batting starsEvan Bigley was 3-for-4 with a double.  Chris Colabello was 3-for-5 with a home run, his twelfth.  Matt Rizzotti was 2-for-3.

Pitching starDaniel Turpen threw three shutout innings of relief, giving up two hits.

Opposition stars:  Juan Perez was 2-for-4 with a home run.  Gary Brown was 2-for-5 with a home run.  Russell Mitchell was 2-for-4 with a double.

Key inning:  The sixth.  Trailing 3-1, the Rock Cats opened the inning with four singles that produced one run and loaded the bases.  Bigley then delivered a bases-clearing double.  He came around to score on Rizzotti’s single, giving New Britain a five-run inning and a 6-3 lead.

TAMPA AT FORT MYERS

Rained out.  Will be made up as part of a doubleheader today.

CEDAR RAPIDS 9, BELOIT 1 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting starJaDamion Williams was 2-for-4.

Pitching starCole Johnson allowed a hit and a walk in a scoreless inning.

Opposition stars:  Zach Wright was 2-for-4 with two homers, driving in four.  Gary Workman was 2-for-5 with a double and a homer, scoring three times.  Gary Mitchell was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

Key inning:  The seventh.  Leading 3-1, the Kernels scored four times to put the game away.  Wright’s three run homer capped off the inning.

BURLINGTON 5, ELIZABETHTON 2 IN BURLINGTON

Batting starsRomy Jimenez and Stephen Wickens were each 2-for-4.

Pitching starJoshua Burris gave up a run on three hits and a walk in 2.2 innings.

Opposition stars:  Henry Moreno was 2-for-4 with two doubles.  Terrance Gore was 2-for-5.  Patrick Leonard hit a home run.

Key inning:  The sixth.  With the score tied at two, the Royals got a walk, a double and a single to score twice and take a 4-2 lead.

Other:  The Twins made four errors.
