Minor Details: Games of 6/27

Pedro Florimon is an all-star.  The Tampa 2 works for Fort Myers.  The GCL Twins are getting bored.  Just another day in the Dominican Summer League.

ROCHESTER 4, LEHIGH VALLEY 3 IN LEHIGH VALLEY

Batting starsTsuyoshi Nishioka was 2-for-5 with two doubles.  Danny Valencia was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.

Pitching starsSamuel Deduno struck out nine in 5.1 innings, giving up two runs on four hits and four walks.  Luis Perdomo struck out two in 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit.

Opposition stars:  Tuffy Gosewisch was 2-for-4 with a double.  Kevin Frandsen was 2-for-4.  B. J. Rosenberg struck out five in 3.1 innings, giving up two hits.

Key inning:  The ninth.  With the score tied at three, Nishioka doubled to score Michael Hollimon with what turned out to be the winning run.

OtherPedro Florimon was the lone Red Wing to make the International League all-star team.

TRENTON 9, NEW BRITAIN 4 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting starsChris Colabello was 2-for-5 with a home run, his thirteenth.  Deibinson Romero was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Oswaldo Arcia was 2-for-5 and drove in a run.

Pitching starsDaniel Sattler allowed one run on three hits and a walk in four innings.  Daniel Turpen struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Luke Merton was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run.  Jose Pirela was 3-for-5 and scored three times.  David Adams was 2-for-4 with two home runs, driving in four.

Key inning:  The second.  Already leading 2-0, the Thunder scored four times to put it out of reach early.  A double, three singles, and two walks produced the runs.

Other:  The Rock Cats received pitcher Sharion Martis in a transaction with the Pittsburgh organization.

FORT MYERS 6, TAMPA 2 IN FORT MYERS

Batting starsKyle Knudson was 2-for-3 with a double and a walk.  Daniel Ortiz was 2-for-4 with a double.  Jairo Perez hit a two run homer, his fifth.

Pitching starsPat Dean allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks in six innings.  Marty Popham worked two shutout innings in his first appearance out of the bullpen this season, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  J. R. Murphy was 2-for-4.  Aaron Dott struck out four in 3.2 scoreless innings, allowing only a walk.

Key inning:  The first.  Levi Michael singled, took second on a ground out, and scored on Knudson’s single for the first run of the game.  Perez followed with a home run, giving the Miracle all the runs it would need.

KANE COUNTY 3, BELOIT 1 IN KANE COUNTY

Batting starNate Roberts was 1-for-3 with a double and two walks.

Pitching starDavid Hurlbut struck out six in six innings, giving up two unearned runs on six hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Alex Llanos was 2-for-4 with a double.  Julio Aparicio was 2-for-4.  Angel Baez pitched 5.2 scoreless innings, walking four and allowing three hits.

Key inning:  The eighth.  Trailing 2-0, the Snappers used three singles to load the bases with one out.  Adam Bryant hit a sacrifice fly to score one, but that was all they got.  Daniel Mateo opened the bottom of the inning with a triple and scored to give the Cougars an insurance run.

ELIZABETHTON 5, BRISTOL 0 IN ELIZABETHTON

Batting starRomy Jimenez was 2-for-4 with a home run, his second, and drove in three.

Pitching starsAngel Mata struck out four in five innings, giving up two hits and a walk.  Hein Robb struck out four in three perfect innings.

Opposition star:  Leopold Sanchez allowed only a walk in two shutout innings.

Key inning:  The third.  There was no score.  Singles by Jorge Polanco, Candido Pimentel, Niko Goodrum, and Max Kepler resulted in two runs and two on.  A walk to D. J. Hicks loaded the bases, and Jimenez delivered a two run single to give the Twins a 4-0 lead.

Other:  Twins pitchers limited Bristol to two hits, both singles, and walked only one.

GCL TWINS AT RAYS

Rained out.  The GCL Twins have not played since Saturday.

DSL REDS 17, TWINS 12 AT TWINS

Batting starsJorge Andrade was 2-for-2.  Rafael P. Valera was 2-for-4 and drove in three.  Luis Gonzalez was 2-for-6, scored twice, and drove in two.

Pitching starJhon Silva pitched a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Ariel Baez was 4-for-6 with a triple, driving in six.  John Zapata threw three shutout innings, giving up two hits.  Eury Cantalizo worked 2.2 scoreless innings.

Key inning:  The fourth.  In the third, the Twins had scored five times to even the score at five.  The Reds came back with sixth in the fourth.  Three walks, three singles, an error, and a two-run triple by Baez produced the runs.

Other:  The Twins made the score look much better by scoring seven runs in the ninth…The Reds made five errors in the game.  The game also featured five wild pitches and two passed balls.
