  1. So, if last November I'd have said that Josh Willingham and Trevor Plouffe! would be the Twins HR leaders at the All-Star break, how many (more) crazy looks would I have gotten?

With a good day, Joe could climb into third in the AL batting race. Two of the five panelists at the 4ltr have Joe as the starting catcher (the other three Mauer With Power starter and Joe as reserve) and four have AJ as a reserve.

  2. Minnesota has caught KC in the least HR hits race. Both have 63. Cleveland is next from the bottom with 67.

  3. A little perspective on LeBron and his The Decision sins.

Dwight Howard sabatoged his team's season last year with his antics and then picked up his option, causing Orlando to not trade him at the deadline. He then got both his coach and his GM fired. then, he walked into the new GM's office and demanded a trade to the Brooklyn Nets, thereby eliminating all of their leverage in trade talks. Then, he accused the Magic of "blackmailing" him.

LeBron played out his contract and left, which was his right. But, yes, he had that TV special. Oh, and they had a celebration in Miami. None of that is even in the same league as what this clown Howard has pulled.

    1. Valid points, all, and Howard is certainly more deserving of scorn. But, there's room in the NBA for more than one villain and comparing what the two guys did doesn't make James any more like-able to me. Plus, they appeared in an annoying McDonald's commercial together, which doesn't help either. What I'm getting at is that I would prefer to see both not win, which will be much easier for Howard to do what with his team destroying ways. James, unfortunately, does work well with, and better, his team mates.

What the NBA really needs is a Love-Rubio dynasty in Minny.

    2. even I can't defend Howard at this point. "Blackmail"??? WTF? His agent needs to tell him to STFU.

    1. Rubio-Batum-Buddinger-Love-Pek! (Or hell, Rubio-Batum-Buddinger-Love-Gasol (Pek!), though I'm not sure if a Batum signing would allow this to work financially.)

      Sounds good to me.

      1. can Batum handle the two-guard position defensively? I haven't seen enough of him to have a good sense. Statistically, he looks a lot like Budinger.

          1. Nicolas Batum is an ok basketball player that can make just about any NBA roster

Doesn't exactly scream dynasty in the making. More like decent bench player.

            1. what little I recall from watching him suggests that he's an athletic swingman with good shooting range. So, a more athletic version of Budinger, basically.

                  1. Ruh roh. TBGMIPS says Budinger fits Adelman's system. Kiss of death?

also, I think the Rockets probably did pretty well in the draft. Lamb, Royce White, Terrence Jones. Jones was an absolute monster in the NCAA tournament. That's a pretty good pickup at 18. I still like the Budinger trade, but Jones could be a very good NBA player.

  4. Stats of the Day: Plouffe ended up batting .327/.391/.735 in June and Liriano now has the second-best ERA of the starters (if you only include the starting stats for Dunce and Swarzak).

  5. I just got an e-mail that BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! is going to the All-Star game.

    1. But Phil Rogers told me this morning that AJ was the best catcher in the AL and that they should do away with the one-per-team rule because he might get screwed!!!!!

  6. Watching the NBC Tour recap tonite. Some thots:

Am watching carefully to see how the Tour de F. formula will work on the bigs - cause I loved it over on OLN, then Versus.

First blush - they haven't wrecked the Phil Liggett/Paul Sherwen play by play, and have found a way to incorporate Bobke (Bob Roll) into the mix (albeit his shirt is oversized).

They had a lot of informal fun earlier (each guy would pick their favorites, assign jerseys, etc.). We'll see if that dries up now that they're on the Ocho.

Before we had banter with Phil/Paul/Bob, now Phil/Paul are faceless entities after the overdramatized beginning. We'll see. Camera-work seems like what we had before with Versus.

Oh, and earlier with OLN/Versus, we had cameo spots on local French food, castles, etc. We'll be curious if that dries up.

    1. I would think things dont change too much since NBC Sports Net was called Versus not too long ago.

  7. "I never consider anybody untouchable. That's not the way to go about business on a baseball team or organization," Ryan said in an interview on 1500 ESPN with Tom Pelissero. "If you've got chances to do things that make a lot of sense for your club there shouldn't be any untouchables. Players know that, agents know that, and so does the fan base.

"I'd be a fool to sit here and say somebody's untouchable."
