2012 Game 83: Minnesota Twins at Texas Rangers

Liriano

Perez

I was thinking about the general good vibes about this season's team. In April they were awful, managing a meager six wins. May was a big improvement, with the Twins tripling their win total. June was helped by Interleague and the Twins finished 13-12 for the month. Comparing through 82 games last year, the Twins are actually a game behind: 35-47 versus 36-46 from 2011. Last year, however, had The Suck(tm) of August and September: 7-21 and 6-20 for the final two months. With the team healthier this year, they might be able to avoid the free-fall and have a chance to lose fewer than 90 games.

      1. This. Really, I'm leaving this hell hole next week, but, damn, do they need some rain here.

  1. that was neat. the field mics picked up Butera yelling 'you got room!' to Plouffe on the high pop up.

  2. I remember seeing Yorvit Torrealba back in '02 or '03 when he was with the Giants. It was an interleague game at Kauffman.

  3. Somehow Mlb.tv figured out that I live 4.5 hours from the ballpark in Arlington just as I'm leaving the state. Boo.

  4. I wonder how different the A's franchise would be if they kept Ron Washington and moved him to manager instead of hiring Bob Geren.

    1. I don't think Wash would have generated them millions more revenue all on his own.

              1. I'm actually out in the 'burbs, so it takes me a while to do that. Maybe this weekend.

                1. I always imagined that area to be where Michael dropped off his brother.

                    1. Wallace heard crickets and was sort of in the woods. I figured he went down towards Annapolis.

        1. I am! I'm no longer a member of the confederacy.

At car-camping this year at Ft. Ridgely, one of the re-enactment-actor-soldier-dudes said that any of us (MNers) have the right to ask to see the VA flag taken by the Minnesota 1st at Gettysburg, kept hidden by the Minny History Center in St. Paul in a secret vault.

      1. to be fair, i had a glass of this, and a pint of this at my local whole foods before that. thanks to these recent developments, after years of working in the TCNFC network, i don't hate whole foods as much as i used to.

        1. Wasn't Sumpin Sumpin on the top-50-or-summat list earlier this week?

        2. I really can't drink more than a single wheat beer in a session because I get all sorts of stuffed up and snotty, and Sumpin Sumpin really brought that out in me. I've been told that I'm missing out.

          1. a wee bit late to the party. Met up with my Davisville buddy at the Beer Shoppe. Enjoyed a Green Flash IPA, a 21st Amendment Spring Saison, a flight of assorted porters, and an Ommegang Art of Darkness. OMGang!!! I love Ommegang so much.

  5. In Boston tonite. Got in some quality-time at the MFA, spent mostly in American Art.

You can really see how Ed Hopper channels on E-6.

      1. I'll be honest. The layout of the MFA was designed by a door-salesman. My God - you can't get thru the American Art section without pushing through N-doors, where N > practical-for-an-art-musem.

          1. The quality stuff IMHO is the Cole, Copley, Peale, Heade, Church, Sargent, Homer, O'Keefe, Pollock. And Stuart of course.

            No Wyeths in Boston, sadly.

                1. "From the time I took my nose off that lithographic stone", Homer later stated, "I have had no master, and never shall have any."

Oh, mama, that's a hell of a quote.

              1. Yeah, he was pretty damn good. What Sargent(s) do they have? Now that guy could handle a brush. Strangely enough, he was hated by many of the profs I had in college. Because he came from money and sold a lot work during his lifetime. Seriously.

                  1. I'm still good friends with one of mine. He admitted a few years back that the guy was terrific, he was just rehashing what he been taught in the 50's-60's.

                1. Daughters of Edward Darley Bolt is probably his major piece there. Next to the painting are two large blue porcelain vases, similar to what is in the painting. Cool effect.

        1. Doors make for good fire protection and security. Just sayin' from my days working in a museum.

          1. I'm just sayin' doors don't always make for good fire protection, from my days testing fire doors.

    1. Speaking of Hopper, I started this one on Tuesday. (unfinished)

meat, you'll notice some of your Prussian Green if you look closely.

      1. I had so much paint that I'd never use, and you've more than supported my habit. I like the source photo in the upper left.

          1. Commutator sounds like a potential future Surly. Hop-blast that plays around with time.

    1. I didn't think it was charming even once, so you're more accepting than I am.

    1. I went to a game he started a couple of summers ago. I went to a game back in May and saw that Shane Costa (former Royal) is on the team.

  6. I may have changed cities and internet providers, but my MLB.tv is still being crappy. It's not as crappy, but still crappy. Ugh.

  7. Smalley repeating the idea that strikeout pitchers throw more pitches per inning. Too bad it's wrong. Liriano has thrown more pitches because he's walked five batters.

    1. Dudes on the Texas feed are yucking it up about Frankie's trade value plummeting re: his 5 walks tonight.

      1. Yeah, they're pretty bad in general, but when the color guy started saying he'd be less interested in trading for Liriano based on this one performance, I about switched to the Twins feed.

    2. As it turns out, the best way to keep your pitch count down is to get outs. Who knew?

  8. Dick n Roy grousing about the night game on Sunday. Well, do you really want to play a day game during summer in Dallas?

  9. Oh, the texas crew are making asses of themselves with the talk about calling "strikes" strikes. I'm happy to be leaving this state.

    1. I dislike Texas on principle. In practice, though, it has some really nice parts.

  10. I'm so glad we had Perkins available tonight to protect that precarious four-run lead for one inning.
