ROCHESTER 3, PAWTUCKET 1 IN ROCHESTER
Batting stars: Pedro Florimon was 2-for-4 with two doubles. Danny Valencia was 2-for-4 with a home run, his seventh. Clete Thomas was 2-for-3 with a home run, his eighth.
Pitching star: P. J. Walters worked five shutout innings, giving up five hits but no walks.
Opposition stars: Che-Hsuan Lin was 3-for-5. Lars Anderson was 2-for-4 with a double. Billy Buckner allowed one run on seven hits and two walks in 5.2 innings.
Key inning: The eighth. Trailing 2-0, the Red Sox loaded the bases with one out, but only scored once on a ground out. In the bottom of the inning, Valencia hit a two-out homer to restore the two-run lead.
TRENTON 7, NEW BRITAIN 1 IN TRENTON
Batting star: Aaron Hicks was 2-for-4 with a home run, his eighth.
Pitching stars: None.
Opposition stars: Zoilo Almonte was 4-for-5. David Adams was 3-for-5 with two doubles. Vidal Nuno struck out ten in six innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk.
Key inning: The first. Hicks opened the game with a home run, putting the Rock Cats up 1-0. That was as good as it got. The Thunder used a double and three singles to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first, and never lost that lead. Adams and Luke Merton each drove in a run with a single.
CHARLOTTE 5, FORT MYERS 3 IN CHARLOTTE
Batting star: Daniel Ortiz was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer, his fifth.
Pitching star: Ricky Bowen allowed a hit in a scoreless inning.
Opposition stars: Hector Guevara was 2-for-4 with a double. Theron Geith struck out three in three shutout innings.
Key inning: The first. The Stone Crabs opened the game by scoring four times. Four singles, an error, and two sacrifice flies produced the runs.
BELOIT 5, CLINTON 4 IN CLINTON
Batting star: Matthew Koch was 2-for-5.
Pitching star: Cole Johnson struck out three while giving up an unearned run on no hits and only one walk in 2.1 innings.
Opposition stars: Ramon Morla was 2-for-4 with a walk and a home run. Daniel Paolini was 2-for-3 with a walk. Robert Shore pitched 2.2 scoreless innings.
Key inning: The sixth. With the score tied at three, Adam Pettersen opened the inning with a double. An error, a walk, and an infield hit put the Snappers in the lead and loaded the bases. An infield out brought in an insurance run.
Other: The teams combined for seven errors, three by Beloit.
ELIZABETHTON 6, KINGSPORT 2 IN ELIZABETHTON (GAME 1—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)
Batting stars: Candido Pimentel was 2-for-3. Adam Walker and Travis Harrison each homered.
Pitching star: Joshua Burris threw two shutout innings, allowing a hit and a walk.
Opposition stars: Maikis De La Cruz was 2-for-3 with a double. Eris Peguero was 2-for-4.
Key inning: The fifth. The Twins led 3-2. Pimentel singled and Max Kepler walked to start the inning. A double steal resulted in a run when the Kingsport catcher threw the ball away. An infield out scored a second run and Walker’s homer produced a third to put the game out of reach.
ELIZABETHTON 5, KINGSPORT 4 IN ELIZABETHTON (GAME 2—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)
Batting stars: Jhonatan Arias doubled. Niko Goodrum was 0-for-1 with two walks.
Pitching star: Corey Kimes struck out eight in five innings, giving up an unearned run on three hits and no walks.
Opposition stars: Eris Peguero was 3-for-4. Anthony Chavez was 2-for-3.
Key inning: The sixth. The Twins led 5-1. Tyler Herr retired the first two batters in the inning, but then gave up five consecutive singles, making the score 5-4 and putting runners on first and third. Kaleb Merck came in and retired Yeixon Ruiz to end the threat.
GCL RED SOX 9, TWINS 4 AT RED SOX (6 INNINGS—RAIN)
Batting stars: Kelvin Ortiz was 2-for-2 with a home run and a walk. John Murphy and Jorge Fernandez were each 2-for-3.
Pitching stars: None.
Opposition stars: Jake Davies was 3-for-3 with two doubles and a walk. Jesus Loya was 3-for-4. Cleuluis Rondon was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple.
Key inning: The fifth. The Red Sox led 4-3. The Twins got a double, an error, a single, and a wild pitch in the top of the inning, but did not score because they lost two runners on the bases. In the bottom of the inning, a pair of walks, a single, and a sacrifice fly produced two Red Sox runs and put the game away.
Other: Joe Benson was 1-for-3 with a double as he continues his injury rehab.
DSL TWINS 4, ORIOLES 1 AT ORIOLES
Batting stars: Engelb Vielma was 2-for-4 with a walk. Adonis Pacheco was 1-for-3 with a triple and two walks.
Pitching stars: Starter Damian Defrank threw four shutout innings, allowing four hits and two walks. Jadison Jimenez worked two shutout innings despite giving up a hit and four walks.
Opposition stars: Alexander Mercedes was 2-for-4. Alexander Santana pitched 3.2 scoreless innings.
Key inning: The third. There was no score. Following a pair of walks, Pacheco delivered a two-run triple to put the Twins in the lead.
Other: Each team drew ten walks.
