I'll put a quickie here because I don't know how long I'll be at the hospital today with my daughter (scorpion sting...ugh).
Ubaldo vs. The Dunce.

Indians pxp dudes are already complaining about the blown call at first base from last night today.
they sound like a bundle of joy to listen to
They suck pretty hard, yeah. I'm thinking Twins feed today.
As much as we complain about dicknbert, I feel like they're probably middle of the road in terms of listenability. Most announcers would get old after a while, I think.
Hmm.
I listen to everyone, and I'd say DnB are firmly in the bottom third or worse. There are a lot of bad feeds, but the majority of them are blandly inoffensive, while a small handful are truly enlightening and fun.
I need to keep a spreadsheet on this. I keep them on everything else, after all.
Case in point: Bert's excited about Pedro Hernandez because of his W-L record in the minors. What a load.
I feel like Dick would come around on things like that if he were paired with somebody who was always mentioning different stats and explaining why W-L record isn't good. He's too passive to argue and eventually I think he'd come to believe it. Bert is a different story. He's too old fashioned and stubborn to come around on many of these things.
Bremer clearly loves baseball, which is why I can tolerate him. I think he feels his role is to defer to the ex-players and coaches, the people who have "played the game", rather than to give his own opinions, so he'll go along with whatever the color guy says.
Yeah, that's kind of what I'm getting at. If you put somebody in there that really knew their stuff, I feel like he would eventually come around on everything they were saying.
Like when TK is in there.
I mentioned it last week, but I thought Bremer and Coomer made a pretty good team (even though Coomer gets sidetracked about hotdogs pretty easy).
Also, if you ever get around to making your spreadsheet, I'd be curious as to what percentage of announcers routinely mention W-L record as some sort of indicator of a pitcher's value, because I feel like most of them do.
It's going away a little, but it's far from gone.
I liked ubelmann's idea of having rotating color guys. Bert has a good sense of humor and I could handle him in small doses, but every night is too much. I feel like Dick could actually be pretty good if they paired him with a good color guy. He can make some really good calls.
The ratings on FanGraphs had them at #14. It seemed a bit high to me though.
The way they ranked them wasn't worth much, though. Fans were allowed to vote, and most likely only showed up to comment on their own team.
I could probably only competently vote on Dick'n'Bert and Hawk. The other 28 crews I could not rank. Having fans vote seems like a poor system.
I've certainly researched enough to have a list, but unfortunately, I rarely take notes. I only remember a couple of the superlatives (Pirates and Indians bad!!!, Dodgers and Red Sox good).
There was a very good NL feed that I heard for the first time this year, but I'll be damned if I can remember what it was.
If only there was some way to view contemporary thoughts about the game that were recorded for posterity.
I suppose now that I think of it, I can comment on Vin Scully and Bob Uecker as being very good.
SENT HIM twice
I really hope Ben Revere tries to steal home sometime this season.
WHAT'S THIS I HEAR ABOUT NO MORE F-BOMB???
If that merits all caps, then seriously, try to avoid finding out where he went.
LOOKS LIKE IT'S SUICIDE AGAIN FOR ME TONIGHT.
When I heard the news last night, I ran into the street and jumped in front of a parked car.
Damn. Well, Revere tried.
Picked up a keg of this today.
I've never even seen that, but it intrigues me.
As for me, I'm still trying to figure out whether I like this Chile Cerveza. It's certainly not like anything else, but I don't foresee buying it again.
It's my own fault. I was in a porter mood, but didn't get a porter. Now every sip I take, I'm wishing it was porter.
Lew Ford was called up by the Orioles yesterday, apparently. Huh.
Now I definitely have to get to an O's game soon.
He's been tearing it up in AAA. Whether that means anything in the majors is another question entirely, but I'm glad he's getting another shot, because he's earned it.
Before that he was leading the LI Ducks in just about everything too, which led to his O's contract.
darn
I am watching Olympic Hoops on my computer. Shved looking good against GB so far.
Shved looks like Ricky Lite, both physically with the mop top and game-wise. He should make for a good backup PG, with longer-term potential to grow into something more. Interesting that Russia had him (trying to) guard Luol Deng.
Also, I am getting more excited about the AK-47 era's start. What an upgrade at the SF position. A 6'10 guy with range, handle, hops and shot-blocking ability, but willing to be part of the puzzle instead of a black hole. Hopefully, Williams will choose to learn some things from him as his caddy.
He appears to be a much better shooter than the Unicorn, but he doesn't have half the charisma of Ricky.
BANDBOX!
One Canadian Stands Alone!!
JUSTIN GO BOOM
O CANADA!
Well, that was the first time I left the room since the second inning, discounting commercials.
Throw beat him by plenty, but that was a sloppy tag.
no kidding. all he had to do is slap his glove on the ground and Dozier was going to be out.
Vino yesterday on his bike, and today Kazakhi breaks record in 53kg (how many stones is that?). Borat might need to update the national anthem...
Kazakhstan greatest country in the world all other countrys are run by little girls.
Kazakhstan number one exporter of potassium!
Other countries have inferior potassium.
The Twins' pitchers already have the worst strikeout rate in the majors and now it's going to get even worse with Liriano gone. They're 70 strikeouts behind #29, Cleveland, and could finish behind by twice as many.
Last year, they were the only team with fewer than 1000 strikeouts.
Pitching to impact.
They do lead in home runs given up.
598 K's through 100 games. So, they are on pace to finish under 1000 again this year.
are you saying Nick Blackburn is not the answer?
He is the answer to a question that nobody asked.
Something Zen/koan-like about that response - still trying to decide if Buddhism or nihilism.
Revere is fast!
that was an awesome balk
That was the balkiest balk ever.
SEND HIM!!
WalksBalks willhauntinfect.Zoinks, Scoob!!
Twins Baseball (tm) !!!
The balk costs them a run.
I can't believe that didn't get out.
It was an unfortunately awesome catch.
That it was.
Duensing is the new Liriano.
Just because you have a .100 OBP doesn't mean you can get on base every time.
the Twins are doing a lot of double steals this year.
Nice setup w/ 1 out - good basepathage by our guys.
Ben Revere and the Raiders!
Afternoon, all. Nice series this has been, pretty much a mirror image of the White Sox series last week.
Only six more runs to get three straight games of 11 or more.
Checked out the high tide charts early this morning, then drove down to Old Saybrook, CT to do some blue crabbing this morning. Found a good spot on Bridge St. to hang out.
I try to go for the cheapest meat at Big Y that will hold together on the end of my string. Just toss it out there, wait, then reel in slowly with my scaup net at the ready.
Got several, one really nice size, but as the tide was going out and they were getting skittish about the shallow water, dropping off my pork tongue bait in the shallows...
Now I have to figure out how to cook them tonite -am thinking maybe use in some pasta sauce.
Some crab sounds really tasty. I'll have to find ways to have it without the drawn butter, but it's my favorite seafood by far.
Just spent thirty minutes to go a 1/4 mile on the freeway because a trailer rolled on to its side and blocked two lanes of traffic. The only lane open was an exit-only lane. Somehow the pickup pulling the motorhome-length trailer was still attached and was not on its side.
swaggin
Thank the baseball gods that Plouffe! will be back in a week.
Two days later he will then be added to the 60 day DL.
No doubt with a completely preventable injury.
Or to prevent having to DFA a player that they end up releasing at the end of the year anyways.
He's no Alexi Casilla!
SWEEEEEEEEEEEP
Canis juvenalis!
Valencia continues to rock the hot bat /not
And we need an update on the scorpion sting...
the Twins outscored the Tribe 28-6 that series
They are +6 in run differential over their last six games despite getting bitch-slapped by the White Sox.
Since May 17, when Revere was called up to join Plouffe as a mainstay in the lineup, the Twins are averaging 4.9 runs per game. The Blue Jays lead the AL with 5.01 runs per game on the season.
For reference, in the 38 games before May 17th, the Twins scored 3.55 R/g.
Who needs Liriano when we've got Duensing? We're still on track for 104-58!
