  1. Indians pxp dudes are already complaining about the blown call at first base from last night today.

        1. As much as we complain about dicknbert, I feel like they're probably middle of the road in terms of listenability. Most announcers would get old after a while, I think.

          1. Hmm.

I listen to everyone, and I'd say DnB are firmly in the bottom third or worse. There are a lot of bad feeds, but the majority of them are blandly inoffensive, while a small handful are truly enlightening and fun.

I need to keep a spreadsheet on this. I keep them on everything else, after all.

              1. I feel like Dick would come around on things like that if he were paired with somebody who was always mentioning different stats and explaining why W-L record isn't good. He's too passive to argue and eventually I think he'd come to believe it. Bert is a different story. He's too old fashioned and stubborn to come around on many of these things.

                1. Bremer clearly loves baseball, which is why I can tolerate him. I think he feels his role is to defer to the ex-players and coaches, the people who have "played the game", rather than to give his own opinions, so he'll go along with whatever the color guy says.

                  1. Yeah, that's kind of what I'm getting at. If you put somebody in there that really knew their stuff, I feel like he would eventually come around on everything they were saying.

                2. I mentioned it last week, but I thought Bremer and Coomer made a pretty good team (even though Coomer gets sidetracked about hotdogs pretty easy).

              2. Also, if you ever get around to making your spreadsheet, I'd be curious as to what percentage of announcers routinely mention W-L record as some sort of indicator of a pitcher's value, because I feel like most of them do.

            1. I liked ubelmann's idea of having rotating color guys. Bert has a good sense of humor and I could handle him in small doses, but every night is too much. I feel like Dick could actually be pretty good if they paired him with a good color guy. He can make some really good calls.

              1. The way they ranked them wasn't worth much, though. Fans were allowed to vote, and most likely only showed up to comment on their own team.

                1. I could probably only competently vote on Dick'n'Bert and Hawk. The other 28 crews I could not rank. Having fans vote seems like a poor system.

                  1. I've certainly researched enough to have a list, but unfortunately, I rarely take notes. I only remember a couple of the superlatives (Pirates and Indians bad!!!, Dodgers and Red Sox good).

                    1. If only there was some way to view contemporary thoughts about the game that were recorded for posterity.

        1. When I heard the news last night, I ran into the street and jumped in front of a parked car.

    1. I've never even seen that, but it intrigues me.

As for me, I'm still trying to figure out whether I like this Chile Cerveza. It's certainly not like anything else, but I don't foresee buying it again.

It's my own fault. I was in a porter mood, but didn't get a porter. Now every sip I take, I'm wishing it was porter.

    1. He's been tearing it up in AAA. Whether that means anything in the majors is another question entirely, but I'm glad he's getting another shot, because he's earned it.

  2. I am watching Olympic Hoops on my computer. Shved looking good against GB so far.

    1. Shved looks like Ricky Lite, both physically with the mop top and game-wise. He should make for a good backup PG, with longer-term potential to grow into something more. Interesting that Russia had him (trying to) guard Luol Deng.

Also, I am getting more excited about the AK-47 era's start. What an upgrade at the SF position. A 6'10 guy with range, handle, hops and shot-blocking ability, but willing to be part of the puzzle instead of a black hole. Hopefully, Williams will choose to learn some things from him as his caddy.

      1. He appears to be a much better shooter than the Unicorn, but he doesn't have half the charisma of Ricky.

    1. no kidding. all he had to do is slap his glove on the ground and Dozier was going to be out.

  3. Vino yesterday on his bike, and today Kazakhi breaks record in 53kg (how many stones is that?). Borat might need to update the national anthem...

    1. Kazakhstan greatest country in the world all other countrys are run by little girls.
Kazakhstan number one exporter of potassium!
      Other countries have inferior potassium.

  4. The Twins' pitchers already have the worst strikeout rate in the majors and now it's going to get even worse with Liriano gone. They're 70 strikeouts behind #29, Cleveland, and could finish behind by twice as many.

      1. 598 K's through 100 games. So, they are on pace to finish under 1000 again this year.

        1. Something Zen/koan-like about that response - still trying to decide if Buddhism or nihilism.

  5. Just because you have a .100 OBP doesn't mean you can get on base every time.

  6. Afternoon, all. Nice series this has been, pretty much a mirror image of the White Sox series last week.

  7. Checked out the high tide charts early this morning, then drove down to Old Saybrook, CT to do some blue crabbing this morning. Found a good spot on Bridge St. to hang out.

I try to go for the cheapest meat at Big Y that will hold together on the end of my string. Just toss it out there, wait, then reel in slowly with my scaup net at the ready.

Got several, one really nice size, but as the tide was going out and they were getting skittish about the shallow water, dropping off my pork tongue bait in the shallows...

Now I have to figure out how to cook them tonite -am thinking maybe use in some pasta sauce.

    1. Some crab sounds really tasty. I'll have to find ways to have it without the drawn butter, but it's my favorite seafood by far.

  8. Just spent thirty minutes to go a 1/4 mile on the freeway because a trailer rolled on to its side and blocked two lanes of traffic. The only lane open was an exit-only lane. Somehow the pickup pulling the motorhome-length trailer was still attached and was not on its side.

  9. Phil Mackey @PMac21
With that fly out, Danny Valencia's OBP on the season just dropped below .200

    swaggin

          1. Or to prevent having to DFA a player that they end up releasing at the end of the year anyways.

    1. They are +6 in run differential over their last six games despite getting bitch-slapped by the White Sox.

  10. Since May 17, when Revere was called up to join Plouffe as a mainstay in the lineup, the Twins are averaging 4.9 runs per game. The Blue Jays lead the AL with 5.01 runs per game on the season.
