    1. We stayed mostly dry. Three pretty minor leaks developed, one eventually opened up to become a pretty good stream of water. The scariest part was around 3 am when one of our windows blew open. I'm a pretty strong dude, but it was a chore to get it closed. Scared the shit out of me, too.

  1. Internet wasn't intermittent last night, it was gone. Comcast service rep says we should get a modem that wasn't manufactured in the late 90's.
But EAR had plans for the State Fair once I got home. So, today's the day we get a modem younger than my college diploma. We'll get one with built-in wifi, so I can use the netbook when EAR is Pinteresting (or vice-versa). And the in-laws won't complain that their iPad's don't work.

I'm kindof disappointed in Duderino's game last night. 7IP, 0R is great, but 9K, 0BB, 0HBP? What happened to the guy with a K/BB below one?

      1. Jeff Gray was sent packing and Parm called up..I think it was yesterday or the night before.

Deduno was something else last night. He had his nasty curve working, but was also throwing a filthy change and the M's couldnt get a read on.

        1. Parmelee was recalled yesterday. At least it wasn't announced until yesterday. Deduno also had an 11-1 GB-FB ratio. That is sick.

        2. The wife and I took OGZ to her first game last night, and it was enjoyed by all. Apparently, they have "My first Twins Game" certificates for the youngin's, which was a cool surprise.

          1. yeah, we got one of those when we took Pete earlier this year. i want to get around to framing it with the tickets. you know, once i get around to it...

            1. Now I have. I'm right there, behind the other guys...

Seriously, if anyone wants to find me, I'm up in section 304 (the only guy holding a baby).

            2. Way to go Wilson...uncanny how well-placed that baby.
I'm there too, behind the other, other guys...
Section 125, Row 6, Seat 10 - up & left of the first ford symbol on the right field foul line. Beard,Twins hat, dark-rim glasses, next to the bald guy...appears that I'm smiling for the camera rather than watching the game.

              1. Yea, but everyone wants to see the baby anyway, right?

You have a nice "Where's Waldo" effect with just your head showing. Also, it's kind of crazy how much sharper the picture is where you are sitting.

                1. Big spenders and all that. Really though, I was thinking the same thing. I kept waiting for your section to clear up after the zoom and it never did.

  2. Right now, the Twins' Elimination number is 14.
But the Tigers are three games behind the Sox and there are seven games left for those two teams to play, which means at best for the Twins, the Sox get two more wins and the Tigers get five more, leaving both with 74 wins. So, the Twins's True Elimination number for the division is 12.

Getting to the true Wild Card is tricky, because it involves interaction between those two teams, the Os, the As, the Rays, and probably the Angels. The nominal elimination number there is 15.

  3. Run, don't walk.

When Edward Zahn decided in May to close his cheese shop in Oconto, he made a discovery that is going to drive cheese lovers more bonkers than the 15-year-old cheddar released by Hook's Cheese in Mineral Point in 2009.

In the back of his walk-in cooler, Zahn, 73, found several wooden boxes of cheddar cheese from the now-closed County Line Cheese in Oconto that over the years had repeatedly been buried by incoming cheese products.

The result is 40-year-old cheddar that makes up part of what is likely the oldest collection of cheese ever assembled and sold to the public, according to experts.

"It just got overlooked," Zahn said. "It looks just like the others except it's just a lot sharper. It's got character."

The others? Those would be the boxes of 34-year-old and 28-year-old cheddar.

    1. Fun facts from it:
Bert Blyleven was the player born most north.
Justin Huber was the player born most south.
Glenn Williams was the player born most east.
Randy Niemann was the player born most west.

      1. Nishi wasn't most 'east'? Also, not a lot of baseball players from the mountain west, eh?

          1. I know, but they don't call Sydney "The Far East"...amIright?

Which end of Australia? Really, I was just trying to make a joak and it flopped.

  4. Just watched the recap of Deduno's outing; you know his stuff was nasty by the number of times Doumit had to throw down to first on strike three. I hope this wasn't just a favorable ump last night, because we need guys like him to build a real rotation.

    1. His stuff seemed filthy in person, but my cousin (a Twins fan by birth, a Mariners fan based on exensive residence in Seattle & Portland) kept reminding me all game how bad the Mariners offense is, especially the line up they trotted out yesterday, and how young they are. Jaso, their best offensive presence in last night's lineup, was batting .279 and went 0-3.

      Other notes from last night:
-Figgins did not look good in center. You can thank him for the Mauer triple.
-Plouffe! at the plate looked like something clicked. Even his outs were hard-hit balls.
-Florimon does some dancing after fielding a ground ball, but he always seems to make an on target throw. Also, he really seems to have a plan at the plate - didn't seem terribly overmatched by "big league pitching".
-Carroll hustles on every play. I like that.
-JMIVGABB. Also, he got a lot of love from the crowd. His 2-run single in the 3rd was ripped to left.
-HRs by Willingham and Plouffe! are fun. Even with a small crowd, that ballpark blew up.
-Steve Liddle as 3rd base coach: 2 thumbs up - Robinson showed off a pretty good arm in left and none of the Twins ran into outs at home.

    2. Sometimes guys figure out how to throw strikes, but it's generally uncommon. I'll believe in him more if he can have 5-6 games in a row with 2-3 BB.

  5. Here are today's lineups from Joe C:

I did not realize the M's traded for Carlos Gutierrez and converted him to a CF. 🙂

    1. The NFL is going to start the season with them, too. I suppose people will watch anyway. Frown. I hope they figure this crap out soon before someone gets seriously hurt.

Well. As a result of poor officiating. You know.

      1. yeah, I cant believe they are playing games that count with these guys. The NFL makes so much money, they own 10 Scrooge McDuck MoneyBins. But they decide to go cheap with the refs.

  7. Just watched an hour or so of a Tedeschi-Trucks Band concert on some cable channel. Wow.
