      1. D's Ghost: That's why I made it download-available.

Bootsy: Thanks for the kind words. I can't immediately make it louder. I used a very simple program, and I couldn't simply undo the lack of compression in the original. The lack of compression happens all the time with classical recordings: quiet parts are very quiet to allow for more dynamics. It bugs me in those recordings, and now I've gone and replicated the results. Hence the "demo" tag.

I can probably compress it if I download a copy of Audacity for my new computer. I have some other versions that start out louder, because I overlapped parts from later in the original. I'll try to pick the best of those and post that as well.

Unfortunately, I think I may have lost the very simple old-fashioned program that I used to make this version. I've got a few other (older) pieces that I've made using similar techniques, with non-musical starting points: one of me banging on a window, and one of Homer Simpson saying "Mmm...Beer". I'll try to dig them up and some other things I've done and post them at soundcloud over time.

I think the Pärt remixes were the last things I've created, and I really just made them because I wanted some ambient versions of some classical music I had. "Magnificat" works great because it really shows off P&aumlrt's "Tintinnabulli" style with a choral piece.

  3. 1. It's Not Peculiar -- Husker Du
    2. Can't Seem to Make You Mine -- The Seeds
    3. Eight Miles High -- The Byrds
    4. Folsom Prison Blues -- Johnny Cash
    5. Autumn Leaves -- Miles Davis

Also, below is a list in somewhat chronological order of the shows I've been to in the last 5 years or so. Definite theme going with these shows:

    Built to Spill
    The Wedding Present
    Lydia Loveless (2)
    Yo La Tengo
    Wilco
    Ike Reilly
    Guided By Voices
    U2
    Ha Ha Tonka
    Meat Puppets
    Bob Dylan
    Neil Young
    Wilco
    Handsome Family
    The Flaming Lips
    Elvis Costello

I may be forgetting one or two along the way and it doesn't include seeing parts of 4 on the Floor, Cloud Cult, and Jessie James performances at the UMN.

    1. A few months ago I started assembling a list of the concerts I attended (that I could remember). I don't see any overlap between us (not that I wouldn't have wanted to go to quite a few of those shows - and I've seen 4onthefloor, but at the Pizza Luce block party rather than UMN).

    2. Since College:

      Avenged Sevenfold
Saliva, Shinedown, & Three Days Grace
Lollapalooza '07 - So many to list.
The Nadas and Josh Davis Band x ∞
      Dick Prall
Trinity Ball '09 - Calvin Harris and others I don't remember.
      Wilco
      Ha Ha Tonka
      The Black Keys
      The Hold Steady

      1. Here's what I could remember:
2012 so far: Dawes, Alabama Shakes, Soundset (Lupe Fiasco, etc.), Joy Formidable, Craig Finn
2012 pending: Macklemore, Rural Alberta Advantage, Of Monsters and Men (sold out by the time Sheenie walked over after her meeting downtown), Generationals
2011: Macklemore (3x), Trombone Shorty, Pizza Luce Block Party (P.O.S., Communist Daughter), Soundset (Big Boi, De La Soul, etc.), No Bird Sing, Sharon Jones, Black Joe Lewis, Blueprint
2010: Hold Steady (2x, with beyond terrible set by Meat Puppets as the opener once), Janelle Monae, Arcade Fire, Trampled By Turtles, Pizza Luce Block Party (Brother Ali), New Pornographers
2009: Michael Franti (2x), Macalester's Springfest (Lucy Michelle, Blackalicious, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin)
2008: Hold Steady, Drive By Truckers, R.E.M., Modest Mouse, the National

        Before 2008, it's a little sketchy...

    *Notes:
1&2. Just added a bunch of Daytrotter Sessions that I've downloaded over the past few months to the iPod. Haven't listened to either of these just yet.
    T. Japanese Edition. This track is highly recommended. I first bought this on 7" Vinly (b/w Sakamoto's remix of "Rubaiyat"), only to find the Japanese album for sale used in Mankato about a decade after its release, for $8.
    E. It's bizarre to hear the same voice that did "Night Nurse", which is basically timeless, to have one of his last singles sing about the internet. Yes, the song title is the first line of the chorus. "The pain and the hurt you can't afford to hide/ Just meet me on my website / Dubyou Dubyou Dubyou Dubyou Love Dot Com / When you need some fun."

    6. I still enjoy Weird Al. And if you want to talk about a good concert, this is the guy!
    8. When I didn't live in the same state and/or country as Philosofette, this song was a big deal to me.
    9. Somehow this song was a hit when Philosofette studied abroad in London. It's awesome in a very very strange way. Check it out.
    10. Whatever happened to Joseph Arthur? Wasn't he about to be huge like a decade ago?
