The Twins shutout Phoenix.  A significant step for Kyle Gibson.

PEORIA 6, PHOENIX 0 IN PEORIA

TwinsKyle Gibson struck out eight in five innings.  He allowed four hits and walked none.  Michael Tonkin gave up one hit and struck out one in one inning.  Logan Darnell worked two innings, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out one.  Caleb Theilbar pitched a perfect ninth, striking out one.  Nate Roberts was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.

Other Javelinas:  Donald Lutz (Cincinnati) was 3-for-4 with a triple.  Rymer Liriano (San Diego) was 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in two.

Opposition stars:  Hunter Morris (Milwaukee) was 2-for-4.

Key inning:  The third.  Roberts and Didi Gregorius (Cincinnati) singled to put runners on first and second.  On a double steal, the Phoenix catcher threw the ball down the left field line, allowing both runners to score.

MESA 6, SURPRISE 5 IN SURPRISE

Nick Castellanos (Detroit) homered in the ninth to break a 5-5 tie and give the Solar Sox the victory.  Dustin Lawley went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to lead Surprise.

SALT RIVER 6, SCOTTSDALE 5 IN SALT RIVER

Brian Goodwin (Washington) led off the bottom of the ninth with a homer to tie the score and Andy Wilkins (White Sox) singled to drive in the winning run later in the inning.  Carlos Sanchez (White Sox) was 3-for-4 for the Rafters.  Gary Brown (San Francisco) was 3-for-5 to lead Scottsdale.
