Tonight is part two in our ongoing series where I use trade machine to try and trade Derek Williams to the team the Wolves are playing that night. My goal is for Derek Williams to become aware of this and use it as motivation. That or David Kahn becomes aware of these posts and tries to make these trades.
After Derek Williams molasses like performance, without any of the sweetness, his trade value is down again. Time to peruse the Warriors line up and see what could help the Wolves.
So this trade is going to be a little bit harder to pull off. The cap numbers between the two teams don't match up favorably without either the Wolves giving up more than one player or the Warriors trading someone that would never, ever trade. Ideally we could do a one for one Jonny Flynn for Steph Curry but I don't think the Wolves have the rights to trade someone who is currently playing for the Melbourne Tigers.

There is is. A whopping seven player deal. The idea here is to get as many players onto the roster as possible since most of the team is hurt. The Wolves get a net gain of three players in this trade. Four if you take into consideration that JJ is currently hurt. This is exactly the kind of trade the Wolves need to make to ensure that Conroy, Lee, and the Steamer are not playing 40 minutes a night.
Oh by the way, if anyone was wondering, the Wolves gave Josh Howard $2.15 million pro-rated of the rest of the season. Yep.
The Wolves are 1 point dogs tonight and the o/u is 185.5. I will take some of the under.
Shoot, I might take the under at 165.5.
Yeah, it might take Josh Howard a couple of games to get his shot together.
It's taking Lion forever.
Tonight should be a good match up for him. If they play him at the 4 he should be able to overpower Lee, if he gets time at the three Harrison Barnes and Richard Jefferson aren't exactly ball stoppers-- at least on defense.
This might be a good game for Williams to get the paint and put up some points. As long as Bogut is out this team doesn't have any stoppers on the block. Klay Thompson can hold his own against two guards but no one else on this team has proven they have any defensive skills yet.
Did you this stat from the Wolves twitter account?
I laughed.
It turns out the numbers I had from trade machine were not correct per Canis. Howard signed for the vet minimum. Also Conroy was cut to make space for Howard.
This is what happens when you write a game log the moment you get home before reading about anything that happened that day concerning the topic at hand.
You could be Zgoda!
I dropped Zgoda from my twitter feed
I dont know how he is allowed to write about basketball
That's the best kind of game log.
I concur.
The Josh Howard era begins!
New Timberwolves drinking game: Every time a Russian scores, take a shot of vodka.
Take three of 'em!
Drink!
Anybody drunk yet?
East cost time, baby!
The Warriors wear my favorite unis in the league.
seconded
Good for Williams, even if he traveled he went towards the hoop rather than settling for a 14 footer.
GOSHDAMMIT!
How many times can this corn cob miss at the rim?
I believe that was the rare combo of a Kirilenko head fake AND D-Will misses point blank shot.
*double chug*
Going along with my drinking game: Every time a Russian gets a block, eat a baked potato.
Every time Derek Williams makes a shot from the top of the key a kitten dies.
Russian Bloc.
Baked potato!
2 potato!
twice baked?
Floor?
Golf clap for this exchange, fellas.
When Williams scores 13 in a quarter it really limits the amount of jokes we can make.
hey, that hasnt stopped us before!
I blame Casilla.
You stop that right now.
that was a great quarter for D Will
Josh Howard sure lets letting his shorts hang low. Let's get that guy some new shorts that fit!
Shved showing off his muscle!
Has there even been an athlete that wears braces that isn't polarizing?
Another kitten dies.
Derek Williams is the new Fred Hoiberg.
What does that make Alexi Casilla?
the Deputy Mayor?
Harrison Barnes is better than I thought he was.
Klay Thompson's defense is not.
it wasnt too long ago, Minnesota had a 10 point lead
Well, the second quarter sucked.
That half went south in a hurry.
For some reason I picture all of the baskets Williams has as missed jumpers that were tipped in, but the official scorer missed it and credited it to the Lion.
Remember when I said the Wolves should be able to score in the paint?
Of course, that doesn't mean they will choose to.
Our offense wasn't very good in that first half. We settled for a lot of crappy jumpers. When they're going in, it looks great and makes your team seem invincible, but they were never great shots and we eventually missed a bunch in a row, which made us look awful.
Fortunately, Adleman is the master of halftime adjustments.
Baked potato! Baked potato! Baked potato!
(oops, missed one)
Baked potato!
Wow, we're not even trying to get to the basket anymore.
Remember when Kahn was ready to give Lee a max contract?
the Wolves are getting blown off the court right now
I'm out of town, so I'm going to be stuck watching Knicks-Grizzlies. #MakeItWayne
I like Shved, don't get me wrong but these jump passes are getting to be a bit much to take.
He should stick to the jump serve.
I normally highly dislike Belgian IPA's, but Lagunitas totally does it right.
I ran out of co2 in my keg last night. It sure takes a long time to get beer without it.
Its amazing what sort of patience a man can show in these kinds of situations.
You really have to make a conscious decision to get drunk.
I think I'm gonna bail on this one and hope its one of those games I wish I hadn't.
I stopped paying attention for a couple of minutes. This one sure got out of hand fast.
That'll happen when you're missing 6 of your best players.
Are you counting Will Conroy?
I am.
Is that like a Casilla?
13 point comeback...that might be too much to overcome back to local 8
Josh Howard currently leads all active Wolves players in All-Star game minutes played.
I think I'm ready for my 4 days off now.
I hate to spoil the game log but I already know who I want the Nuggets to give the Wolves for Williams.
Corey Brewer!
...
Peyton Manning?
When the Wolves play Baltimore Laddie is coming back home.
Anthony Randolph?
Why would anyone want Randolph when you could have Corey Brewer?
You make an excellent point, Greek.
I see they have Kosta Koufos too
Williams 6/6 from the line tonight!
Derek Williams has 5 total rebounds to lead the Wolves. David Lee has 5 offensive boards.
These team is taking to many Beasley like shots tonight. I am going bonkers over here!
yeah, but 80% of the shot in the paint have been blocked
Williams fumbling around and dropping the ball in the paint doesn't count as a block.
Vodka!
Here we go again....
Oh and
thdrink. Not feeling good on my under bet.
That was an awful shot by Shved.
Better.
Worse
The Warriors need to call 4 time outs.
wait, weren't the wolves just down by 15?
What it do.
okay, i'll take the blame for this one.
Didn't you come in during the middle of a come back on Wednesday, too?
...
SEE YA LATER CURRY
Holy rebound!
Flynn drops out. Curry fouls out.
I call it a push.
I see I didn't miss much. I also see AK still played 38 minutes, even with Howard playing 14 minutes and DWill looking league average or so. I hope we don't overuse our new Russian before the games really start meaning anything.
Id say every game is a meaningful game if your team has not been to the playoffs in 10 years
I want to see Andrei out there with Love and Rubio later this year, though. When you're this short-handed, I think sometimes Adelman needs to accept the loss a bit earlier and save some wear-and-tear on his better players.
I think you both make good points at this is something worth keeping an eye on.
Interesting lineup on the floor here at the end. Three power forwards (OK, AK is more of a small forward but he can play the 4) and two combo guards.
bring out your healthy players!
...
..
but Im not healthy yet
Here's to the next time the Wolves take the floor to seeing a few more healthy bodies.
I blame this loss on the many mentions of Casilla in the gamelog. .100 OPS ain't gonna get in done in the NBA, boys.
this pretty much sums thing up right now
Good old-fashioned Knickerbocker meltdown going on here.
Carmelo Anthony's foul/tech was pretty funny
J-Kidd better be getting a call from the Flop Police next week.
yeah, that was JJ Barea like
its so weird seeing Ellington playing competently
If it makes you feel better, Corey Brewer still sucks.
