Puerto Rican Palaver: Games of 12/12

Another good game for Eddie Rosario.

MAYAGUEZ 4, CAROLINA 3 IN MAYAGUEZ

TwinsAngel Morales (Carolina) was 1-for-4.  Daniel Ortiz (Mayaguez) was 1-for-3 with a walk and scored once.  Eddie Rosario (Mayaguez) was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Nelvin Fuentes (Mayaguez) pitched two-thirds of an inning scorelessly, giving up two walks and striking out two.

Game summary:  Mayaguez scored the go-ahead run in the sixth on a Danny Gonzalez RBI single.  Carolina loaded the bases in the seventh but did not get a man past first after that.

Carolina:  Ben Lasater (Miami) was 3-for-4 with an RBI.  Justin Bour (Cubs) was 2-for-3 with a double and two walks, scoring once and driving in one.

Mayaguez:  Angelo Gumbs (Yankees) was 2-for-4 with a double.  Gonzalez was 2-for-3.

MANATI 2, CAGUAS 1 IN MANATI (GAME 1—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Game summary:  Wilberto Ortiz delivered a bases loaded single in the seventh to break a 1-1 tie and drive in the winning run.

Caguas:  Kelvin Villa gave up two runs on three hits and a walk in 6.1 innings.  Luis Mateo (St. Louis) was 2-for-3 and scored once.

Manati:  Shinya Kayama struck out six in 5.1 innings, allowing one run on seven hits and two walks.

CAGUAS 4, MANATI 2 IN MANATI (GAME 2—SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Game summary:  Andy Gonzalez hit a two-run homer in the sixth to put Caguas ahead 3-2.  Caguas got an insurance run in the seventh.

Caguas:  Luis Mateo (St. Louis) was 3-for-4 with a home run.  Gonzalez was 2-for-3 with a walk and three RBIs.

Manati:  Orlando Alfonso allowed one run on six hits and a walk in five innings.  Brahiam Maldonado was 2-for-2 with a double and a walk, scoring once.

PONCE 3, SANTURCE 2 IN SANTURCE

Game summary:  Ponce led 3-1 after six.  Santurce scored once in the eighth but never got the tying run on base.

Ponce:  Giancarlo Alvarado gave up one run on four hits and three walks in five innings.  Robinson Cancel was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Santurce:  Fehlandt Lentini was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Luis Figueroa was 2-for-4 and scored once.
