FMD: Dec 14, 2012

Keep your powder dry on your "Best of" lists please. We'll either do that on Dec. 28 or Jan 4. So far, I'm thinking Dec 28.
I have no idea what I'll have. This was the year I stopped following P4K, so I don't even know what came out or what was big. Maybe I can figure something out in a two weeks (unlikely).

    2. I feel like this is a song where BNL shows more musical potential than they ever really achieved outside of a couple of songs.
    6. This band's trajectory is just so sad to me. Sometimes going commercial doesn't really mean worse music - or at least not much worse - but in this case... ugh. Everything they do now is so boring.
    7. Of all the songs The New Standards have covered, this is the one that I think is the most "new standard"-y. Not that this is the New Standards' version. But who can help but think of the New Standards at this time of year?
    8. I don't hate David Gray. I don't listen to him really, since he gets boring then. But there are times he's called for.
    9. If it needs making up for, then this makes up for David Gray.
    B. And if anything else needs making up for, then this song takes care of everything in every list I've ever put up.

    1. Ugh, #8. EAR listened to that album a lot when it was new, and that song was my least favorite.
"This year's love: Italy" repeated 100 times, each time a tad bit more grating.

        1. Or, if you were dating a girl named Etta Leigh.

Still, I don't see how my scenario or yours would make a difference.

    2. I thought most of the singles from No Doubt's Rock Steady were pretty decent, but I was never invested in the band.

    3. I was never bothered by BNL, I found them enjoyable enough. My sister, SNF, hates them with a glowing passion. Probably because her first-semester freshman-year roommate listened to nothing else. I blame that gal for SNF's coincidental depression and dropping out, not the band.

I liked BNL's song for King of the Hill, although EAR hated it when I would vocally mash it up with TLC's "Unpretty" (I didn't have the technology to do that well with the actual recordings). They're the same song in my ears.

            1. can't listen to, or can't hear the Stones anymore?

*oh wait, that would be the Stones who are so old they can't hear*

        1. I think DMB at least has a lengthier discography.
"If I Had a Million Dollars", once every three hours, on average? That could lead to majoring in explosives.

    1) I haven't been posting lists regularly because I feel like they've been a bit stale. It's probably down to a lack of new albums I've purchased of late, to which I attribute two factors - no money and Spotify. I've been exposed to a ton of great music this year, but I have listened to it almost exclusively on Spotify, and that doesn't show up on my random 10's. I really want to get a couple new albums as soon as I can afford them (which, if/when I have a job and I can afford them, I'll have plenty of time on the bus to listen to them).

    2) Going in the opposite direction - The Great Purge of 2012 is nigh!

Anyone going to Japandroids at Triple Rock?

    1. Anyone going to Japandroids at Triple Rock?

God, I would love to, but it just doesn't work out for me. Shame, I love Celebration Rock.

      1. I was just coming here to talk about that album. AV Club but that as the #2 album of the year. I own that album. At no point did I feel like I was listening to one of the best albums of the year. I take it I should give this album a few more listens then.

        1. I am giving the album another chance while watching the Wolves tonight. I feel like this album is a less awesome version of the Oxford Collapse's last disc. Thoughts?
