The Twins lead Mayaguez into the finals.

MAYAGUEZ 7, SANTURCE 6 IN MAYAGUEZ

Twins: Daniel Ortiz (Mayaguez) was 1-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one. Kennys Vargas (Mayaguez) was used as a reserve and was 0-for-1. Eddie Rosario (Mayaguez) was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk, scoring once and driving in two. Nelvin Fuentes (Mayaguez) struck out the only batter he faced.

Game summary: Mayaguez scored five in the first to take a 5-2 lead. Santurce tied it with three in the fifth. Mayaguez took a 6-5 lead in the seventh. Santurce tied it at six in the top of the ninth. Ortiz delivered an RBI single with one out in the ninth to win the game.

Santurce: Miguel A. Martinez pitched three perfect innings of relief. Carlos Coste (Boston) was 4-for-5 with a two-run homer and scored twice.

Mayaguez: Angel Sanchez (White Sox) was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one. Juan Silva (Cincinnati) was 1-for-2 with a double and two walks.

CAROLINA 3, CAGUAS 1 IN CAGUAS

Game summary: Caguas scored first, taking a 1-0 lead in the third inning, but Carolina came back with two in the fourth and one in the sixth.

Carolina: Gaby Hernandez gave up an unearned run on five hits and no walks in five innings, striking out four. Rene Garcia (Houston) was 2-for-3 with a walk and all three RBIs.

Caguas: Lou Montanez was 2-for-4 with a walk and a run. Edgardo Baez was 2-for-3 with a walk.

PLAYOFF UPDATE

Mayaguez and Caguas, as the top two finishers in the round-robin portion of the playoffs, advance to a best-of-seven series, beginning Friday, to determine the champion.
