  1. Yesterday's bacon and pork belly burger was just a warmup exercise. Tonight: all-you-can-eat crab and tri-tip at the annual Boosters fundraiser (featuring the jazz band, which includes The Girl). I need to get to the gym soon....

  2. Hahahahaha!

Over 11 NBA seasons, journeyman forward Brian Scalabrine cultivated an image of a regular guy who just happened to play basketball. Eventually, many fans came to believe that Scalabrine was an Average Joe, not an elite athlete (as all NBA players are), and figured that he probably wasn't that great at the profession that earned him tens of millions of dollars. This summer, Scalabrine said that he resented this suggestion (even if he also heartily embraced the regular guy image), and in December he challenged any Boston-area amateur basketball players to games of one-on-one.

On Monday, Scalabrine faced four hand-picked competitors. He destroyed them all.

    and there's video.

  3. In my second viewing of The Wire, I just finished Season Two. Although it doesn't get as much love from fans, I have to say that it really holds up and is a fantastic season. There were times I felt embarrassed riding my bike while watching as I felt like I should be taking notes.

The scene between Ziggy and Frank Sobotka in the 2nd to last episode was just amazing: "the same blood don't flow for us, pop."

    1. I had this discussion with a friend last night. He didn't seem to agree with me when I was arguing that season 2 gets even better on a second viewing. In fact, I think it might have become my favorite of all the seasons.

      1. i liked season 2 at the time (though it took me a few episodes top adjust after the first season), but it is indeed better with a second viewing, if only to be prepared from the beginning.

i've always felt the 2nd kind of stands on its own outside of the rest of the show, and while it's not my favorite, it's still fabulous TV.

    2. one of these years, Im going to sit down and watch The Wire just so I know what everyone is talking about.

              1. I figure the late start gives DW time to drive from Madelia to Mankato to pick you up after work and still get to my house.

  4. Gophers go down to defeat to Iowa in wrestling, 16-15 (tied 15-15, lost on criteria). A lot of very strategic wrestling. Loss by favored senior Cody Yohn was the difference.

    1. GW's record for fewest points allowed in a game is still safe. I remember the St. Louis game. I was watching on my computer and St. Louis went almost an hour (including halftime) in real time without a point.

By the way, GW put a beat-down on Charlotte today and has won three straight conference games for the first time since 2009. Things are looking back up (and I'm going to my first GW game since 2006 next Saturday).

The last game I attended was Game 163esque. Top ten team. 15-0 in the conference and undefeated at home for the year in the last game of the season - senior day for four players who turned the program around. Trailing the whole game, they hit a 3 to tie with 10 seconds left in regulation. Then, they miss a shot in OT to take the lead, try to intentionally foul only to have the opponent flip-out for no reason and pick up a technical. They make their technical free-throws, the opponent only makes 1-of-2 on his intentional foul so down one. Airballed 3-point attempt but a tip at the buzzer and GW wins by a point. Beyond crazy.

  5. so the Wolves lose (again) because the Bobcats (!!!) scrambled and fumbled the ball for 23 seconds and then nailed a 3 pointer with 1 on the shot clock and 4 seconds left in the game.

  6. I didn't watch (but seriously, JJ Barrea gets blocked to end it. That guy sucks.) but this is the worst Wolves season ever, yeah? The expectations alone make this the Minnesota-ist season of all time.

    1. its hard to top the2009-10 season

this game was going all right, then Rubio got kneed in the thigh and had to sit out a lot of the 3rd quarter and all hell broke loose.

      1. The difference is that team was expected to be terrible. This team was expected to be good, but through MN-sports ended up injured to the point of unexpected terribleness.

  7. In positive sports news, I recently learned that my league curling team qualified for the playoffs after the first half of the season. I fully expect us to lose in the semi-finals, though, because that's what happens where I come from.

      1. Same as one joins a bowling team, really. I just also happen to live in an area with a robust curling scene and have a friend who is elite.

          1. Yeah, pretty much. I think, sans knowing people you just have to go hang out where curling happens.m, take sn interest in it.

  8. "I know I kind of read a little about how they don't think Correia or I were sexy pickups, I guess, because we don't really strike a lot of guys out," Pelfrey said. "Any way you want to look at it, whether it's a groundout or strikeout, as long as you're getting people out, we'll take it."

I think Pelfrey just got a new nickname. Hey, Sexy! I challenge our creative types to come up with a header for him.

  9. "You should be held accountable year by year. I have no problem with that," he said. "It's not going to change what I do. You might see me walk out to the mound with a little tighter butt. Nah, I think it'll be just fine."

I don't want to see that header.
