Murder by Death is a band that I wished I liked more. They've toured with Ha Ha Tonka twice, and are now on the same label, Bloodshot. Unfortunately, I just find their songwriting weak and hookless: nothing to draw me in or make me want to come back, except for a few jokey things about whiskey and shaving with knives. They may have finally released the album that will fix that for me: a covers album, with the covers selected by fans on Kickstarter. Among the titles:

Note to Pirate: I looked up Look It's Baseball and found out it was originally on a GBV "fans only" release but has now been made available via digital download. A friend of mine gave me a copy of this about 10 years ago, an excellent starting point because it covers the two distinct styles that they would explore. Supersnazz and Teenage Head are both great rock-n-roll records in their early, bluesier style. Shake Some Action is the best one for their later British Invasion sound. A super underrated band, IMO.
Anyone else listened to the new Knife album? I like "A Tooth for an Eye" quite a bit.
I haven't. I hear there's a long drone track in the middle. I've been listening to a lot of The Seer recently, so that kind of thing is sounding pretty appealing. I might have to check it out this weekend.
My verdict on Cloned Moor? A little scattershot at times, and I'm not huge on the spoken word parts, but there are parts that I really, really like. Thanks for the heads up on them.
My favorite thing about Cloned Moor is that you have these 20-word+ song titles, and the album opens up with a spoken word track, and then....
3 chord songs (sometimes 4) that last for 6 or 7 minutes! Classic misdirection.
Anyway I agree with you, for being a 22 minute album there's a lot of up and down, but there is some good stuff there.
I haven't had a chance yet. Might wait until I can test an illicit download on my commute.

No random ten today (brought the iPod, but had no aux cable, so I listened to Z99's execrable morning show, instead.
I've been listening to some Youth Lagoon, some Tegan and Sara, and some Frightened Rabbit lately. The Joy Formidable album is also never far from the playlist. I did take some time to listen to all my Sigur Rós albums the other night, as well.
In situations where I forget the iPod, I go without sound and listen to my car to make sure its running properly.
That would've been infinitely preferable to what I did instead.
