A new month is upon us.
I didn't make my goals last month and that's become somewhat of an ongoing theme, but I've got a new plan and I feel like I've bent the curve down a little, so that's good.
This last weekend, I was in ND and so were my girls. We had a family event there, which meant a lot of fatty foods. I did my best to limit my intake, but I will admit to a short period of time in the kitchen where I snarfed some leftover pork ribs. Man, they were good. But, this week I've been conforming more closely to the diet plan (with modifications). My wife made a soup last night from some soup mix that she bought at the local organic market. Man, was it good -- and nutritious. High in fiber, very high in protein, almost no fat. I think I'm going to work that in on a regular basis.
Last night, I went to spin class and I felt the effects of nine days off the bike. Usually, I like getting up off the seat, but we didn't do much of that. I struggled mightily, but I worked through it the best I could. Calories burned: 733. That's pretty low for an hour ride, but it was about 5 minutes short of normal, so add about 60 calories to that had we gone the whole hour. That's a decent pace. Part of the reason why I didn't burn as many calories is that we spent a long time in a fairly low heart rate range and we didn't do the standing much. When standing, it is much easier to exert and therefore drive the heartrate up. The last 40 minutes or so was really tough for me as we were seated and my legs were aching, but we also weren't burning calories. But, I need to build that endurance, too, so it was good and burning 733 calories is better than sitting on the couch.
I have to go back in my heartrate monitor and check what I burned in my workouts in April, but my May goal is to burn at least 1000 more calories. That amounts to a little more than one good workout. I'm going to fail big goals at this point, so I'll set a small goal and see if I can get there.
My weight this morning was 215.9. So, that's down a little and more importantly, it seems that maybe the rapid gain curve is now bent. So, that's good. Every day that I'm not gaining is another day where my body can work on resetting itself.
I've been roughly maintaining too, still just on the wrong-side of 200. It has turned out to be the least restful week of vacation I've ever had, and I haven't worked out at all. Diet hasn't been good, but hasn't been bad, and I've resisted temptation a few times (and given in a few). We have a couple two-liters of soda in the fridge right now. When those are gone, I won't buy any more soda until my birthday in 2 weeks. That'll help get me back on track there.
Half marathon last Sunday in Cheshire, CT. Time trial last Wednesday in Bolton, CT. Trooper Duathlon this morning in West Hurley, NY.
Not bad for having ruptured my plantarsis muscle 3 weeks ago (it is vestigial).
