A good day for Chris Herrmann.  Wildness hurts the Red Wings and Kernels.  Angel Morales comes through for Fort Myers.

COLUMBUS 7, ROCHESTER 5 IN ROCHESTER

Batting star:  Chris Herrmann was 3-for-4 with a double and scored twice.

Pitching stars:  Virgil Vasquez struck out seven in five innings, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Omir Santos was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in three.  T. J. House struck out seven in seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits and no walks.

Key inning:  The sixth.  The score was tied at two as Shairon Martis entered the game.  He retired the first batter but walked the next two.  A ground out made it two down, but another walk loaded the bases.  A wild pitch put the Clippers into the lead and a two-run single by Santos made it 5-2.

FORT MYERS 6, DUNEDIN 2 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  Matt Koch was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Angel Morales was 1-for-2 with a triple and was twice hit by pitches.  He scored once and drove in two.

Pitching stars:  Jason Wheeler struck out four in five innings, giving up two runs on eight hits and three walks.  Nelvin Fuentes struck out three and walked none in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.  Zach Jones pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Matt Newman was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Andy Burns was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

Key inning:  The seventh.  Leading 4-2, Fort Myers scored two more to put the game away.  Miguel Sano singled, Kennys Vargas walked, and they both scored on a triple by Morales.

BELOIT 3, CEDAR RAPIDS 2 IN BELOIT

Batting star:  Niko Goodrum was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple, driving in one.

Pitching star:  Matt Tomshaw pitched seven innings, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk.

Opposition stars:  Derek DeYoung struck out five in five innings, allowing one run on five hits and no walks.  Vincent Voiro struck out five in four innings, allowing an unearned run on two hits and no walks.

Key inning:  The ninth.  The score was tied at two.  Tim Atherton was in his second inning of work.  He walked the first batter, struck out the second, then walked the next two to load the bases.  A strikeout (his fifth of the game) gave the Kernels hope, but Chad Lewis singled to bring in the winning run.
