Minor Details: Games of 5/25

Kyle Gibson shines again.  A solid effort from Matthew Summers.  Charlotte just can't beat Twins affiliates.

ROCHESTER 4, CHARLOTTE 1 IN ROCHESTER

Batting starsEric Farris was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Jeff Clement was 3-for-4 with a double and scored once.

Pitching starKyle Gibson struck out seven in eight shutout innings, giving up two hits and three walks.

Opposition stars:  Dan Remenowksi struck out three in two shutout innings, allowing two hits and a walk.  Duente Heath pitched two shutout innings, allowing one hit.  Lars Anderson was 0-for-1 with three walks.

Key inning:  The second.  In a scoreless tie, Clement led off with a double and went to third on a ground out.  A walk put runners on first and third, Brian Dinkelman hit an RBI single and Farris drove in two with a double, giving the Red Wings a 3-0 lead.

NEW HAMPSHIRE 4, NEW BRITAIN 2 IN NEW HAMPSHIRE (COMPLETION OF SUSPENDED GAME)

Batting starsJordan Parraz was 2-for-4 with a home run, his first.  Daniel Ortiz was 2-for-4 with a double.  Josmil Pinto was 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.

Pitching starsA. J. Achter struck out three in two innings, giving up two hits and a walk.  Bruce Pugh pitched a scoreless inning, giving up only a walk.

Opposition stars:  Chorye Spoone pitched three shutout innings, allowing a hit and two walks while striking out two.  Brian Van Kirk was 1-for-3 with a walk and scored three times.

Key inning:  The seventh.  The Fisher Cats led 3-2 when the game was suspended in the fourth inning, and it had stayed that way.  In the seventh, two walks and a single loaded the bases with one out and a ground out brought home an insurance run.  The run came off Edgar Ibarra in his second inning of work.

NEW BRITAIN 4, NEW HAMPSHIRE 1 IN NEW HAMPSHIRE (REGULARLY SCHEDULED GAME--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting starsDanny Santana was 3-for-4 with a double and a triple, scoring three times.  James Beresford was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.  Josmil Pinto was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

Pitching starsPat Dean pitched 5.2 innings, giving up an unearned run on six hits and a walk.  Michael Tonkin pitched 1.2 perfect innings with two strikeouts.

Opposition stars:  Sean Ochinko was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.  Kevin Pillar was 2-for-3.

Key inning:  The fifth.  The Fisher Cats scored in the fourth to cut the lead to 2-1.  Nate Hanson singled to lead off the fifth, advanced to third on a pair of ground outs, and scored on a Dan Rohlfing single to restore a two-run lead.

FORT MYERS 6, CHARLOTTE 4 IN FORT MYERS

Batting starsAngel Morales was 3-for-4 with an RBI.  Jhon Goncalves was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Pitching starsMatthew Summers pitched 6.1 innings, giving up three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out five.  He had thrown six shutout innings before tiring in the seventh.  Cole Johnson pitched a perfect ninth.

Opposition star:  Jeff Malm was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.

Key inning:  The eighth.  Charlotte had scored four in the seventh to take a 4-2 lead.  Matt Koch walked for the Miracle and scored on an RBI double by Jonathan Murphy.  An error put runners on first and third.  Stephen Wickens and Eddie Rosario then delivered RBI singles.  The next two batters went out, but Morales came through with another RBI single to make the score 6-4.

BURLINGTON 6, CEDAR RAPIDS 3 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting starJorge Polanco was 3-for-5 with an RBI.

Pitching starsMatt Tomshaw and Tyler Jones each pitched a scoreless inning with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Ryan Crowley pitched six shutout innings, allowing two hits and two walks.  Kyle Johnson was 2-for-5 with a double and scored twice.  Kevin Moesquit was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Key inning:  The ninth.  The Kernels scored two in the eighth to cut the lead to 4-3.  With two out in the ninth, a walk, a single, and another walk loaded the bases.  Jonathan Walsh then hit a two-run single to put the game away.  The runs came off Josue Montanez, who was in his second inning of work.
