Batting stars: Deibinson Romero was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Clete Thomas was 1-for-2 with two walks. It must say something that a week ago, Romero was in New Britain and now he's batting cleanup for Rochester.
Pitching stars: Virgil Vasquez pitched five innings, giving up one run on five hits and two walks. Shairon Martis gave up one hit in two shutout innings. Anthony Slama struck out two in a perfect inning.
Opposition stars: Starter Charles Leesman struck out six in four shutout innings, allowing two hits and four walks. Jordan Danks was 2-for-4 with a walk and scored twice.
Key inning: The eighth. The Knights trailed 2-1. Charlotte opened the inning with a pair of singles, but the next two batters went out. A walk loaded the bases and Jim Gallagher came through with a two-run double to put the Knights ahead 3-2.
NEW BRITAIN 11, NEW HAMPSHIRE 4 IN NEW HAMPSHIRE
Batting stars: Dan Rohlfing was 3-for-3 with two walks and a double, scoring twice and driving in two. Josmil Pinto was 2-for-3 with two walks and scored twice. James Beresford was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.
Pitching star: Bobby Lanigan gave up one hit in two shutout innings.
Opposition stars: Kevin Pillar was 3-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one. Sean Ochinko was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double and scored once. Brian Van Kirk was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
Key inning: The seventh. The Rock Cats led 5-4. New Britain opened the inning with four walks. An error brought in a second run. Rohlfing then doubled in two, Danny Santana had an RBI single, and Chris Pettit delivered a sacrifice fly. When the inning ended, the Rock Cats had an 11-4 lead.
In case you're interested: Trevor May started for New Britain, going five innings. He allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and three walks while striking out two.
CHARLOTTE 4, FORT MYERS 2 IN FORT MYERS
Batting stars: Jonathan Murphy was 2-for-4 with a home run. Kennys Vargas was 2-for-4 with a double. Jairo Rodriguez was 2-for-4.
Pitching stars: Corey Williams pitched a perfect inning, striking out one. Tom Stuifbergen pitched eight innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits. He walked none and struck out none.
Opposition stars: Starter Jesse Hahn pitched four shutout innings, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out three. Taylor Motter was 2-for-3 with a home run and scored twice. Ryan Brett was 2-for-4 with a double and scored twice.
Key inning: The third. The Stone Crabs led 1-0. With one out, Motter singled and Brett doubled. An error plated one run and Drew Vetterson singled to drive home another, giving Charlotte a 3-0 lead. The Miracle never got closer than two runs.
