Minor Details: Games of 5/30

A 5-0 sweep for Twins affiliates!  Kyle Gibson pitches to the score.  Kennys Vargas and Tyler Grimes hit big three-run homers.

ROCHESTER 13, LEHIGH VALLEY 10 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Oswaldo Arcia was 4-for-5 with a double and a home run, his fourth, scoring three times and driving in two.  Dan Rohlfing was 3-for-4 with a walk and scored twice.  Eric Fryer was 2-for-3 with a triple and two walks, scoring twice and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Aaron Thompson pitched a perfect inning.  Shairon Martis struck out one and gave up one hit in a scoreless inning.

Opposition stars:  Troy Hanzawa was 3-for-4 with an RBI.  Leandro Castro was 2-for-5 with a home run, scoring twice and driving in three.  Steve Susdorf was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.

Key inning:  The eighth.  The IronPigs trailed 10-6 when Anthony Slama entered the game.  The first two batters singled and Susdorf delivered an RBI double.  A sacrifice fly made it 10-8.  A hit batsman and an RBI single by Hanzawa made it 10-9.  Tyler Robertson entered the game and retired the first batter he faced on a fly out, but an error tied the score.  In the bottom of the eighth, however, the Red Wings came back.  Arcia singled and Deibinson Romero hit a two-run homer to give Rochester the lead.  With one out, Rohlfing singled.  Eric Farris then delivered an RBI triple to make it 13-10.

Pitching watch:  Kyle Gibson had four shutout innings, but he allowed three runs in the third, two in the sixth, and was charged with one in the seventh.  His line was six innings, six runs, eight hits, two walks, and six strikeouts.

NEW BRITAIN 2, RICHMOND 1 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting star:  Daniel Ortiz was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Pitching stars:  Pat Dean pitched seven innings, giving up one run on five hits.  Blake Martin struck out two in a perfect inning.  A. J. Achter gave up to hits in a scoreless inning.

Opposition stars:  Jack Snodgrass pitched 7.2 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks.  Javier Herrera was 2-for-3 with a double.  Mark Minicozzi was 2-for-4 and scored once.

Key inning:  The fourth.  The score was tied at one.  Curt Smith led off with a double.  He was still on second with two out, but Ortiz came through with an RBI single.

FORT MYERS 7, BRADENTON 4 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  Kennys Vargas was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer, his eleventh.  Eddie Rosario was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Levi Michael was 1-for-3 with a walk and a home run, his second.

Pitching stars;  Ryan O'Rourke pitched two shutout innings, giving up two hits.

Opposition stars:  Eric Avila was 2-for-3 with a double and a home run.  Benji Gonzalez was 2-for-4 and scored once.

Key inning:  The eighth.  The Miracle trailed 4-3.  A walk and a single put two runners on with one out.  Rosario got an RBI single, Stephen Wickens walked, and Vargas hit a three-run homer to put Fort Myers in front.

CEDAR RAPIDS 5, CLINTON 3 IN CEDAR RAPIDS (GAME 1--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Bryon Buxton was 2-for-3 with a walk and scored once.  Tyler Grimes was 1-for-3 with a three-run homer, his fourth.

Pitching star:  Tyler Duffey pitched four shutout innings, giving up five hits and no walks while striking out five.  David Hurlbut pitched a scoreless inning, striking out two and walking one.

Opposition stars:  Dylan Unsworth allowed one run on five hits in four innings.  Taylor Ard was 2-for-3 with a two-run homer.  Janelfry Zorrilla was 2-for-3 and scored once.

Key inning:  The sixth.  The LumberKings trailed 2-1 when Zorrilla singled and Ard hit a one-out two-run homer to put Clinton ahead 3-2.  In the bottom of the inning, Adam Brett Walker II tripled, Travis Harrison walked, and Grimes hit a three-run homer to put the Kernels back in front.

CEDAR RAPIDS 3, CLINTON 2 IN CEDAR RAPIDS (GAME 2--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Travis Harrison was 1-for-2 with a home run, his ninth, and was hit by a pitch.  Dalton Hicks was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.

Pitching stars:  Tyler Jones pitched two shutout innings despite giving up a hit and three walks.  Josue Montanez gave up one hit in two shutout innings.

Opposition stars:  Brock Hebert was 2-for-3 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.

Key inning:  The fourth.  In a 2-2 tie, Harrison led off the inning with a home run to give the Kernels the lead.
