Minor Details: Games of 6/24

A better, but not particularly good, outing by Liam Hendriks.  A good game for Eddie Rosario.  We're getting closer to being caught up.

LOUISVILLE 4, ROCHESTER 2 IN LOUISVILLE

Batting stars:  James Beresford was 2-for-3.  Jeff Clement was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer.

Pitching star:  Shairon Martis pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Daniel Corcino pitched 7.1 innings, giving up two runs on seven hits and no walks.  Nevin Ashley was 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI.  Jason Donald was 2-for-3 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one.

Key inning:  The fourth.  Leading 3-2, the Bats got an insurance run when Josh Fellhauer singled, took second on a passed ball, went to third on a fly out, and scored on a single by Donald.  Louisville scored single runs in each of the first four innings.

Prospect watch:  Liam Hendriks pitched six innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on ten hits and no walks with five strikeouts.

NEW BRITAIN 6, ALTOONA 4 IN ALTOONA (GAME 1--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting star:  Eddie Rosario was 2-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in three.

Pitching star:  A. J. Achter struck out two in 1.2 scoreless, hitless innings.

Opposition stars:  Charles Cutler was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Drew Maggi was 2-for-4 with a double and scored once.  Alex Dickerson was 2-for-4 with a double and scored once.

Key inning:  The second.  The Rock Cats trailed 1-0.  Josmil Pinto led off with a single.  Reynaldo Rodriguez hit a one-out double to put runners on second and third.  A ground out tied the score, and a pair of walks loaded the bases.  Danny Santana singled to put New Britain ahead, followed by a three-run triple by Rosario, who scored on a Nate Hanson double.  The Rock Cats tallied six times in the inning, which was all the runs they got and all the runs they needed.

Prospect watch:  Miguel Sano was 0-for-3.

ALTOONA 2, NEW BRITAIN 0 IN ALTOONA (GAME 2--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Eddie Rosario was 1-for-2 with a walk.  Daniel Ortiz was 1-for-2.  Those were the only two Rock Cats hits of the game.

Pitching stars:  Starter B. J. Hermsen pitched three innings, giving up a run on four hits and a walk.  Cole Johnson struck out one in a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Ethan Hollingsworth pitched six innings, allowing a hit and a walk.  Kelson Brown was 2-for-3 and scored once.  Gift Ngoepe was 1-for-2 with a walk and a home run, his third.

Key inning:  The third.  It was a scoreless tie.  The Curve scored a gift run as Gift Ngoepe homered to give Altoona a 1-0 lead.

Prospect watch:  Miguel Sano was 0-for-2.

PALM BEACH 4, FORT MYERS 2 IN PALM BEACH

Batting star:  Aderlin Mejia was 2-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Matt Tomshaw pitched 6.2 innings, giving up three runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out five.

Opposition stars:  Kyle Hald pitched eight innings, allowing two runs on four hits and no walks.  Colin Walsh was 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, and an RBI.  Starlin Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Key inning:  The seventh.  The Cardinals trailed 2-1.  A pair of singles put runners on first and third with one out and a force out tied the score.  Rodriguez then delivered an RBI double to give Palm Beach the lead.

Prospect watch:  Kennys Vargas was 0-for-3.

ELIZABETHTON 7, GREENEVILLE 2 IN GREENEVILLE

Batting stars:  Dereck Rodriguez was 2-for-6 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in two.  Romy Jimenez was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.  Tanner Vavra was 2-for-4 with two walks, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Randy Rosario pitched five shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.  Kuo Hua Lo struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Darwin Rivera was 2-for-4 with a double and a two-run homer.  Bobby Borchering was 2-for-4 and scored once.

Key inning:  The sixth.  The Twins led 3-0.  A walk and a single put two runners on with one out.  Rodriguez then hit a two-run double, followed by an RBI triple by Bryan Haar.  Haar scored on a wild pitch to make the score 7-0 and put it out of reach.

GCL RAYS 5, GCL TWINS 2 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Chad Christensen was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Brian Navaretto was 2-for-4.  Lance Ray was 1-for-3 with two walks and scored once.

Pitching stars:  Sam Gibbons struck out three in four innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits and no walks.  Bruce Pugh walked two in a scoreless inning.

Opposition stars:  Erick Vasquez was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Riley Unroe was 2-for-5 and scored once.

Key inning:  The eighth.  The Twins had scored in the seventh to cut the Rays lead to 3-2.  An error and a single put runners on first and third with one out.  Vasquez singled in one run and Alexander Simon singled in another to make the score 5-2.

Prospect watch:  Amaurys Minier was 0-for-4.  Engelb Vielma was 1-for-4.
