Minor Details: Games of 8/3

Jeff Clement leads the Red Wings to victory.  A complete game shutout for Taylor Rogers.  A big comeback for the GCL Twins.

ROCHESTER 7, SYRACUSE 6 IN ROCHESTER (12 INNINGS)

Batting starsJeff Clement was 2-for-6 with a double and a grand slam (his fourteenth homer), driving in five.  Josmil Pinto was 2-for-5 with a double.  James Beresford was 2-for-5 with two runs.

Pitching starsP. J. Walters pitched 5.2 innings, giving up one run on three hits and five walks with three strikeouts.  Michael Tonkin struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks.  Shairon Martis pitched 1.1 perfect innings with a strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Caleb Clay pitched seven innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks with one strikeout.  Eury Perez was 2-for-4 with a double and scored once.  Tyler Moore was 1-for-4 with two walks and a double, scoring once and driving in two.

Key inning #1:  The tenth.  The score was tied at one.  With one out for Syracuse, a double, a walk, and a hit batsman loaded the bases.  Moore hit a two-run double, an intentional walk re-loaded the bases, a ground out scored a third run, and a Zach Walters double put the Chiefs ahead 6-1.  In the bottom of the inning, singles by Eric Farris and Beresford put two on with two out.  Chris Parmelee singled in one, a walk loaded the bases, and Clement hit a grand slam to tie the game.

Key inning #2:  The twelfth.  The score was tied at six.  Deibinson Romero led off with a walk and scored on a double by Clement to end the game.

Prospect watchParmelee was 1-for-5 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Aaron Hicks was 0-for-4 with a walk.

NEW BRITAIN 6, ERIE 4 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting starsReynaldo Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run (his fifteenth), scoring twice and driving in two.  Kyle Knudson was 2-for-3 with a double and a hit-by-pitch, driving in one.  Danny Santana was 2-for-4 with a double and scored once.

Pitching starsMatt Hauser struck out two in two perfect innings.  Daniel Turpen struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and a walk.  Jose Gonzalez pitched a scoreless inning, giving up no hits and one walk with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Victor Larez struck out six in three innings, allowing one run on two hits and no walks.  James McCann was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.

Key inning:  The fifth.  Erie had cut a 4-0 deficit to 4-3.  In the top of the inning, the SeaWolves put runners on first and third with one out on a walk and a single.  They then pulled off a double steal of second and home, with James Robbins scoring to tie it up.  In the bottom of the inning, Rodriguez hit a two-out home run to put the Rock Cats back in the lead.

Prospect watchEddie Rosario was 1-for-4 and scored once.

FORT MYERS 5, TAMPA 0 IN TAMPA

Batting starsDarin Mastroianni, on a rehab assignment, was 3-for-5 with two doubles, scoring three times.  Dalton Hicks was 3-for-4 with a walk and two RBIs.  J. D. Williams was 2-for-4 with a walk and scored twice.

Pitching starTaylor Rogers pitched a complete game shutout, giving up five hits and three walks with seven strikeouts.

Opposition star:  Jose Toussen was 2-for-2 with a walk.

Key inning:  The third.  It was a scoreless tie.  One-out singles by Mastroianni, Hicks, and Williams put the Miracle in the lead, and a wild pitch scored a second run.

Prospect watchKennys Vargas was 1-for-5 with an RBI.  Mike Kvasnicka was 2-for-4.  Aderlin Mejia was 0-for-4.

QUAD CITIES 5, CEDAR RAPIDS 2 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting starMichael Quesada was 1-for-3 with a walk and scored once.

Pitching starTim Shibuya pitched three shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks with two strikeouts.

Opposition stars:  Joe Bircher pitched seven innings, allowing one run on two hits and no walks with two strikeouts.  Carlos Correa was 4-for-5 with two RBIs.  Austin Elkins was 3-for-4 with a triple and a home run, scoring twice.

Key inning:  The fourth.  The River Bandits led 1-0.  An error and two singles loaded the bases for Cedar Rapids.  With one out, Danry Vasquez singled in a run and Correa delivered a two-run single to make it 4-0.

Prospect watchJorge Polanco was 1-for-4 with an RBI.  Adam Brett Walker II was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Max Kepler was 1-for-4.

BLUEFIELD 14, ELIZABETHTON 6 IN ELIZABETHTON

Batting starsZach Granite was 3-for-5 and scored twice.  Mitch Garver was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, driving in four.  Rory Rhodes was 2-for-5 with a double.

Pitching starAndrew Ferreira pitched 1.1 perfect innings with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Jairo Labourt pitched four innings, allowing one run on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts.  Dawel Lugo was 5-for-5 with a double and a home run, scoring twice and driving in three.  D. J. Davis was 2-for-5 with a walk, a triple, and a home run, scoring three times and driving in two.

Key inning:  The second.  Leading 3-1, the Blue Jays scored five times.  Davis tripled in one run, Derrick Loveless doubled in two more, one scored on a wild pitch, and the fifth came in on a Lugo double.

Prospect watchDereck Rodriguez was 1-for-5 with a run.  Romy Jimenez was 0-for-2 with two walks and scored once.

GCL TWINS 10, GCL RED SOX 8

Batting stars:  Zach Larson was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Jason Kanzler was 2-for-5 with a double and scored once.

Pitching stars:  Brandon Easton struck out four in three shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks.  Miguel Gonzalez struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk.  Jose Abreu struck out one in a scoreless inning, giving up no hits and one walk.

Opposition stars:  Aneudis Peralta was 3-for-5 and scored once.  Nick Longhi was 2-for-4 with two doubles and scored once.  Sean Coyle was 1-for-3 with two walks and a three-run homer.

Key inning:  The sixth.  The Twins had cut an 8-1 deficit down to 8-4, then scored six times to take the lead.  Three walks opened the inning.  Engelb Vielma and Nelson Molina delivered RBI singles.  With one out, Larson drove in two with a double to tie the score and Chad Christensen plated two with a single to put the Twins ahead.

Prospect watch:  Amaurys Minier was 1-for-4 with a walk and a home run, his sixth.  Adonis Pacheco was 1-for-2 with two walks and scored once.  Alex Wimmers started and pitched three innings, but surrendered eight runs (five earned) on nine hits and no walks with two strikeouts.

DSL TWINS 9, DSL WHITE SOX 4 AT WHITE SOX

Batting starsDubal Baez was 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs.  Joel Ramirez was 1-for-2 with three walks, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Starter Jadison Jimenez struck out three in three shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.  Williams Ramirez struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up no hits and one walk.  Gabriel Rosario pitched a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Roger Ramos was 1-for-3 with a walk and scored twice.  Carlos Gonzalez was 1-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.

Key inning:  The fourth.  Leading 1-0, the Twins scored five times.  A single, a walk, and an error loaded the bases and the first run was walked in.  Ramirez singled in one, two scored on an error, and a sacrifice fly plated the fifth.
