Miguel Sano comes back in a big way.  Jeff Clement stays hot.  Elizabethton loses its seventh straight.

ROCHESTER 6, DURHAM 4 IN DURHAM

Batting starsJeff Clement was 3-for-5 with a double and a home run (his fifteenth), scoring twice and driving in two.  James Beresford was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Eric Farris was 2-for-2 and scored once.

Pitching starsAaron Thompson pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and a walk.  A. J. Achter struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up no hits and one walk.

Opposition stars:  Mike Fontenot was 2-for-3 with a walk and scored once.  Craig Albernaz was 1-for-3 with a walk and a grand slam.  Chris Gimenez was 1-for-2 with two walks and a double, scoring once.

Key inning:  The eighth.  The score was tied at four.  Deibinson Romero led off with a single and was replaced by pinch-runner Ray OlmedoOlmedo went to second on a ground out and scored on a two-out single by Beresford to give the Red Wings the lead.

Prospect watchEduardo Escobar was 1-for-4 with a home run, his first.  Aaron Hicks was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Chris Parmelee was 0-for-4 with a walk.  Josh Willingham was 0-for-3.  Josmil Pinto was 0-for-4.

NEW BRITAIN 13, AKRON 6 IN AKRON

Batting starsMiguel Sano was 3-for-5 with a double and a home run (his eleventh), scoring twice and driving in three.  Wilkin Ramirez was 3-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring twice.  Danny Santana was 2-for-5 with a walk and a double, scoring twice and driving in three.

Pitching starMatthew Summers pitched six innings, giving up two runs on four hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

Opposition stars:  Jesus Aguilar was 2-for-3 with a walk and a two-run homer.  Jake Lowery was 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run homer, scoring twice.

Key inning:  The first.  The Rock Cats scored seven before the Aeros came to bat.  With a runner on first and none out, Eddie Rosario circled the bases on a triple-and-error to give New Britain a 2-0 lead.  Ramirez doubled and Sano homered to make it 4-0.  The next two batters went out, but then the Rock Cats put together four consecutive singles to score three runs, with Jordan Parraz driving in one and Santana knocking in two.

Prospect watchRosario was 2-for-6 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one.

QUAD CITIES 7, CEDAR RAPIDS 2 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  None.

Pitching stars:  None.

Opposition stars:  Mark Appel pitched five innings, allowing two unearned runs on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.  Patrick Christensen struck out five in three shutout innings, allowing one hit and no walks.  Brian Blasik was 2-for-3 with a double and a home run, scoring twice and driving in two.

Key inning:  The first.  A single and a double put River Bandits on second and third with one out.  A sacrifice fly scored the first run and Bobby Borchering hit a two-run homer to put Quad Cities up 3-0 before the Kernels batted.  The runs came off Josue Montanez, who pitched seven  innings but gave up five runs on five hits and no walks while striking out five.

Prospect watchJorge Polanco was 1-for-4 with a double.  Adam Brett Walker II was 0-for-4.  Max Kepler was 0-for-4 and scored once.

JOHNSON CITY 4, ELIZABETHTON 2 IN ELIZABETHTON (GAME 1--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting starTanner Vavra was 1-f0r-2 with a walk and scored once.

Pitching starAaron Slegers struck out three in 1.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and no walks.

Opposition stars:  Zach Loraine struck out three in 2.1 perfect innings.  Richy Pedroza was 1-for-1 with a walk and a hit-by-pitch.

Key inning:  The second.  It was a scoreless tie and the Cardinals scored all four of their runs.  A walk and two singles loaded the bases.  J. J. Altobelli doubled to drive in two.  A hit batsman re-loaded the bases, a walk forced in a run, and a force out scored another run to make it 4-0.  The runs scored off Josh Burris, who struck out seven but gave up four runs on three hits and five walks in 5.1 innings.

Prospect watchZach Granite was 0-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Romy Jimenez was 1-for-3.

JOHNSON CITY 4, ELIZABETHTON 1 IN ELIZABETHTON (GAME 2--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting starsZach Granite was 1-for-2 with a walk and scored once.  Carlos Avila was 1-for-2.

Pitching starCarson Goldsmith struck out two in a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Starter Michael Holback struck out six in three shutout innings, allowing one hit and one walk.  Rowan Wick was 2-for-3 with a home run.

Key inning:  The fourth.  It was a scoreless tie.  Wick led off with a home run to put the Cardinals ahead.  A walk and a hit batsman put two runners on with none out.  The next two batters went out, but the Twins made errors on the next two batters, with each error allowing a run to score for a 3-0 Johnson City lead.

Prospect watchRomy Jimenez was 0-for-3.  Yorman Landa started and pitched for innings, giving up three runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

GCL TWINS 8, GCL RAYS 2 AT RAYS

Batting starsAdonis Pacheco was 2-for-5 and scored once.  Jason Kanzler was 1-for-3 with two walks and scored twice.  Engelb Vielma was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double and scored twice.

Pitching starsLewis Thorpe struck out eight in five innings, giving up two unearned runs on four hits and a walk.  Josh Guyer struck out three in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and no walks.

Opposition stars:  Alexander Simon was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Jeremy Hadley was 2-for-4 and scored once.

Key inning:  The second.  Leading 1-0, the Twins scored five.  A pair of singles and a ground out scored the first run.  Rick Schwarz singled in the second.  A walk and a hit batsman loaded the bases.  An error scored two and a wild pitch plated another, giving the Twins a 6-0 lead.

Prospect watchZach Larson was 1-for-5 and scored once.

DSL TWINS 3, DSL PADRES 2 AT TWINS

Batting starRafael P. Valera was 1-for-2 with two walks and scored twice.

Pitching stars:  Starter Javier Vargas pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk with one strikeout.  Jose Ramirez pitched four shutout innings, giving up one hit and two walks with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Starter Manuel Gonzalez pitched four innings, allowing one run on one hit and three walks with three strikeouts.  Carlos Belen was 1-for-4 with a home run.

Key inning:  The ninth.  The Padres trailed 2-1 when Belen led off the inning with a home run to tie it up.  In the bottom of the inning, Jonathan Alvarez drew a one-out walk.  Pinch-runner Dubal Baez stole second.  The next batter struck out, but then an error brought home the winning run.

Prospect watchManuel Guzman was 1-for-5.  Joel Ramirez was 0-for-4.

    What will the Twins do when the Red Wings are promoted to the majors to replace the relegated Astros?

    1. I don't know, but with that stat line from the Twins major leaguers, I know who won't be promoted any time soon.
