  1. Colabello still can't pull the ball very well. I'm cool with it going over the right field fence though.

  2. the last Twins 2Bdude (50% and more at bat at that position) to have at least 25 doubles in a season was Todd Walker in 1999 (he hit 27 that year)

    Dozier now has 23

      1. Colabello on second, ball hit to SS and he backhands it, Colabello too far off second and tries to make it to third, then tried a rundown and is too slow.

it wasnt awful, but it wasnt the smartest thing to do.

        1. The ball was hit to his left. You are taught as a base runner to react in that situation away from the ball. So, if it is to your left, go right, as in toward third base. It was just hit hard and Alexei just had a better angle to get him at third. Also, Colabello not exactly fleet of foot.

  3. You know, you'd think that if I centered the CoC around the doubleheader and have been on the site all day I'd remember to join the game immediately. But here I am in the fifth inning. Oh well.

    1. If only there was some indicator on the site that would tell you the time of the game.

  4. you know, for a sinkerballer Gibson sure gives up a lot of HRs.
Is he the next Nick Blackburn?

    1. Groundball pitchers do tend to have a higher HR/FB. Usually a bit lower than today's 25%.

    1. That's what always frustrates me about Bert. He does know baseball, especially pitching, and can break it down as well as anyone when he wants to. It's just that he so rarely wants to.

      1. He's done it at least three or four times today, offering insights that were either relevant to pitching, to history, or both (and I ADORE both). I'm glad he's doing this during a White Sox series so I can actually hear it.

  5. I realize it's been rough in the South Side this summer, but how does Ramirez only have two homeruns?!

    1. Awesome. They even look similar.
I hope that OF Danks is the next position player the Sox pick to pitch a mopup inning.

  6. Dozier's been on an extra base hit tear lately, so of course he is asked to sac bunt.

  7. If your leadoff hitter isn't one of the guys you want swinging the bat in a tense, high leverage situation, there's something seriously wrong with either your lineup construction or your late-and-close strategy.

  8. Gameday appears to now show you who's actually on base plus this year's SB and CS numbers. I like they added simple baserunning info.

      1. Did it also include SB and CS? I seem to recall now that it did. In that case: about time MLBAM, geez man.

  9. Riffing on my last comment: I really enjoy the willingness of Gardy to go to position players in bled-dry-bullpen-blowouts.
Probably helps ratings and entices fans from leaving early, if just a little bit, too. "The game's awful: we should stick around to see how Clete's fastball looks."

    1. It would be awesome to have Danks relieve Danks. It would require a rather contrived situation (lot of extra innings?), but the sibling rivalry would be great.

    1. Tonight do you want the ballgame with homers?
Or do you prefer the ballgame with walks?
      Homers after walks!

            1. Would you hit them on the road?
With the bases filled to load?

Would you hit them to lead off?

What did you eat in Venezueala
to make you hit it like Conseula?

  10. I completely unspookied that as much as it is possible to unspooky anything. WOO-HOO!!!!!

  11. Anytime you can use a LOOGY for just one batter (with a 489 careeer OPS, no less) when the next batter is also a lefty in the first game a double-header, you gotta make that move.

      1. I was pretty shocked to see it for 7.99. Its normally a little more than that round here. But hey, you could do worse than Mirror Pond for your lazy purchase.

  12. that thing where Dozier slides for the ball, pops up, throws the guy out all in one motion is sweet.

    1. playing games in the South Side always help increase ones HR total

Matt Tolbert hit 2 of his 3 career dingers there.

  13. AMR--Does a reliever get credited with a SOC if no one comes in to actually get the save opportunity that was created?

  14. I always love those endings that fizzle. Yeah, we won, after nearly giving it away. Oh well. Hopefully we'll do this again in a few hours. Also, the Rome game starts in an hour and a half, so get excited.

    1. I gotta be honest, my attention will be split between Vikings preseason and the Twins second game.

  15. Matt Maloneys greatest contribution to the Twins?

    Phil Miller ‏@MillerStrib
Burton said as Colabello's HR was in flight, Duensing jumped up and yelled, "C'mon, punch me, punch me!" It was ex-Twin Matt Maloney's idea.
