Minor Details: Games of 8/8

A good outing for Kyle Davies.  Another rough outing for Alex Wimmers.   A LEW! sighting.

DURHAM 7, ROCHESTER 3 IN DURHAM

Batting stars:  Josmil Pinto was 3-for-4.  Jermaine Mitchell was 2-for-4.  Eric Farris was 2-for-5.

Pitching star:  Shairon Martis pitched a scoreless inning, giving up no hits and one walk with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Shelley Duncan was 2-for-3 with a hit-by-pitch, a double, and an RBI.  Kevin Kiermaier was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring twice.  Leslie Anderson was 1-for-3 with a walk and a three-run homer.

Key inning:  The first.  It was a scoreless tie.  Kiermaier led off with a single and Cole Figueroa doubled.  Tim Beckham hit an RBI single.  With one out, Anderson hit a three-run homer to make it 4-0.

Prospect watch:  Eduardo Escobar was 1-for-5 with a double and scored once.  Chris Parmelee was 0-for-4 with a walk and scored once.

NEW BRITAIN 1, AKRON 0 IN AKRON

Batting star:  Evan Bigley was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Pitching stars:  Kyle Davies pitched six innings, giving up four hits and no walks with two strikeouts.  Cole Johnson struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks.  Dakota Watts pitched as scoreless inning, giving up one hit and no walks.

Opposition stars:  Will Roberts pitched seven innings, allowing one run on three hits and a walk while striking out five.  Ronny Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a double.

Key inning:  The first.  Eddie Rosario hit a one-out single, Miguel Sano drew a two-out walk, and Bigley singled to bring in what turned out to be the only run of the game.

Prospect watch:  Rosario was 1-for-4 and scored once.  Wilkin Ramirez was 0-for-4.  Sano was 0-for-3 with a walk.

CHARLOTTE 3, FORT MYERS 1 IN FORT MYERS

Batting star:  Levi Michael was 1-for-2 with a walk and scored once.

Pitching stars:  Manuel Soliman struck out six in four innings, giving up one run on five hits and three walks.  Zach Jones struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk.

Opposition stars:  Lenny Linsky started and pitched four shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk with three strikeouts.  Willie Argo was 3-for-5 and scored once.  Jake Hager was 2-for-4 with a walk.

Key inning:  The sixth.  The Stone Crabs led 1-0.  Alejandro Segovia hit a one-out single and Jake DePew hit a two-out single.  Kes Carter then hit a two-run triple to make it 3-0.

Prospect watch:  Byron Buxton was 1-for-4 with a double.  Aderlin Mejia was 0-for-3 with an RBI.  Dalton Hicks was 1-for-4.  Kennys Vargas was 1-for-4.

CEDAR RAPIDS 7, BELOIT 2 IN BELOIT

Batting stars:  Jonathan Murphy was 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, and a triple, driving in four.  Adam Brett Walker II was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Joel Licon was 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Tim Atherton pitched five innings, giving up two runs on seven hits and three walks with four strikeouts.  Alex Muren pitched three perfect innings with two strikeouts.  Brian Gilbert pitched a perfect inning, giving up one hit and no walks with one strikeout.

Opposition star:  Aaron Shipman was 2-for-3 with a walk and scored once.

Key inning:  The fourth.  Trailing 2-0, the Kernels came up with six.  Niko Goodrum walked, followed by consecutive RBI doubles by Jorge Polanco and Walker.  Max Kepler singled and Travis Harrison was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  With one out, Licon hit a one-out single and Murphy hit a three-run double to make it 6-0.

Prospect watch:  Polanco was 1-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Kepler was 2-for-5 and scored once.

ELIZABETHTON 6, JOHNSON CITY 3 IN ELIZABETHTON

Batting stars:  Zach Granite was 2-for-3 with two walks, scoring once and driving in one.  Rory Rhodes was 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs.

Pitching stars:  Randy Rosario pitched seven shutout innings, giving up five hits and two walks with four strikeouts.  C. K. Irby struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up no hits and one walk.

Opposition stars:  Vaughn Bryan was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Richy Pedroza was 1-for-2 with two walks and scored once.

Key inning:  The first.  With a runner on second and two out, Mitch Garver singled in a run, took second on an error, and scored on a Rhodes single to make it 2-0.

Prospect watch:  Romy Jimenez was 0-for-4 with a walk and scored once.

GCL ORIOLES 4, GCL TWINS 2 AT TWINS

Batting star:  Jonatan Hinojosa was 2-for-3 with a walk and scored once.

Pitching stars:  Fernando Romero struck out five in 5.1 scoreless innings of relief, giving up one hit and one walk.  Leonel Zazueta struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up no hits and one walk.  Tyler Stirewalt struck out the side in his only inning.

Opposition stars:  Jesus Martinez was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.  Lew Ford, on a rehab assignment, was 1-for-1 with a walk and reached on catcher's interference, scoring once.

Key inning:  The first.  The Orioles opened with three singles, followed by a walk and two more singles, scoring four times before anyone was retired.  The Twins came back with two in the bottom of the inning, but no more runs were scored the rest of the game.

Prospect watch:  Alex Swim was 1-for-4.  Adonis Pacheco was 1-for-4 with an RBI.  Alex Wimmers started and pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up four runs on five hits and a walk.

DSL DIAMONDBACKS 8, DSL TWINS 1 IN TWINS

Batting stars:  None.

Pitching stars:  Ramses Herrera pitched a scoreless inning despite giving up three walks.  Randolph Perez pitched a perfect inning with two strikeouts.

Opposition stars:  Anderson Placido struck out eight in six innings, allowing an unearned run on three hits and no walks.  Oswaldo Garcia was 2-for-4 with a walk and a home run, scoring twice.  Vicson Graciano was 2-for-3 with two walks and a double, scoring once.

Key inning:  The first.  Henry Castillo hit a one-out single and scored on a ground out.  Raul Santana then singled, stole second, and scored on a Richi Sanchez single to make it 2-0.

Prospect watch:  Manuel Guzman was 1-for-4.  Dubal Baez was 1-for-3 and scored once.  Francis Mateo was 0-for-3.  Alexis Tapia pitched four innings, giving up five runs on nine hits and no walks with two strikeouts.

    But maybe next time through the rotation, Kyle Davies will take this start.
    Then there really will be no way to stop them!
