ROCHESTER 7, LOUISVILLE 3 IN ROCHESTER

Batting starsEric Fryer was 3-for-4 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in three.  Darin Mastroianni was 3-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Chris Colabello was 2-for-5 with a double.

Pitching starsA. J. Achter struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks.  Shairon Martis pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Henry Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a double.  Felix Perez was 2-for-4.  Neftali Soto was 2-for-5.

Key inning:  The fifth.  The Red Wings trailed 3-2.  A walk and a Deibinson Romero single put runners on first and second with two out.  James Beresford and Eric Farris delivered RBI singles and Fryer hit a two-run double to give Rochester a 6-3 lead.

Prospect watchEduardo Escobar was 2-for-5.  Chris Parmelee was 0-for-5.  Scott Diamond pitched five innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on seven hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

Pennant race update:  Rochester leads Pawtucket by two games in the International League North.

BINGAHMTON 5, NEW BRITAIN 4 IN BINGHAMTON

Batting starsDanny Santana was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs.  Miguel Sano was 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, and a home run (his fifteenth).  Evan Bigley was 2-for-4.

Pitching starCole Johnson struck out four in 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up two hits and one walk.

Opposition star:  Chase Hutchingson struck out four in two shutout innings, allowing two hits and two walks.

Key inning:  The sixth.  The Mets trailed 4-0.  Starter Matthew Summers had a no-hitter through five innings, but opened the sixth with two walks.  A ground out put runners on second and third.  Josh Rodriguez singled in a run, and Ryan O'Rourke replaced Summers.  A walk loaded the bases, Allen Dykstra singled in a run, and Johnson came in to pitch.  Cory Vaughn singled to tie the score and Travis Taijeron doubled to put Binghamton in the lead.

Prospect watchEddie Rosario was 0-for-5 and is 0 for his last 16.

BRADENTON 3, FORT MYERS 2 IN FORT MYERS (12 INNINGS)

Batting starsStephen Wickens was 3-for-6 with two doubles and an RBI.  Mike Kvasnicka was 3-for-5 with a double and scored once.  Byron Buxton was 2-for-4 with two walks, a double, and a triple.

Pitching starsJason Wheeler struck out six in 6.2 innings, giving up an unearned run on six hits and three walks.  Tyler Jones struck out three in three shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks.

Opposition stars:  Robby Rowalnd pitched 6.2 innings, allowing an unearned run on five hits and a walk with one strikeout.  Jose Osuna was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.  Benji Gonzalez was 2-for-4 with a walk and scored twice.

Key inning:  The twelfth.  The score was tied at two.  Adrian Salcedo came in to pitch.  He retired the first batter he faced, then walked the next three and balked in the go-ahead run.

Prospect watchDalton Hicks was 0-for-2 with three walks.  Kennys Vargas was 0-for-5.  Nelvin Fuentes pitched 1.1 innings, giving up one run on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

CEDAR RAPIDS 6, PEORIA 1 IN PEORIA

Batting starsMax Kepler was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run (his eighth), scoring twice.  Adam Brett Walker II was 2-for-4 with a double and scored twice.  Jonathan Murphy was 2-for-4 with a walk and scored once.

Pitching starsHudson Boyd pitched five innings, giving up one run on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts.  Christian Powell struck out four in two shutout innings, giving up three hits and no walks.  Mason Melotakis struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up a hit and a walk.

Opposition stars:  C. J. McElroy was 2-for-5 with a double.  Juan Herrera was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Key inning:  The fourth.  It was a scoreless tie.  Kepler doubled, Walker II singled, and Mike Gonzales hit an RBI single to put the Kernels ahead.  A wild pitch scored a second run and Joel Licon singled in a third to make it 3-0.

JOHNSON CITY 9, ELIZABETHTON 6 IN ELIZABETHTON

Batting stars:  Zach Granite was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Bryan Haar was 2-for-5.

Pitching star:  C. K. Irby struck out two in a scoreless inning.

Opposition stars:  Justin Ringo was 5-for-5 with four RBIs.  Richy Pedroza was 3-for-4 with a walk, two doubles, and a triple, scoring four times and driving in three.

Key inning:  The third.  It was a scoreless tie.  With one out, two singles and a walk loaded the bases.  Justin Ringo singled in two runs and a ground out scored a third to make it 3-0 Cardinals.

Prospect watchZach Larson was 1-for-5 and scored once.  Romy Jimenez was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Yorman Landa pitched five innings, giving up five runs (three earned) on seven hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

Pennant race update:  Elizabethton is tied with Johnson City and 2.5 games behind Kingsport for the last playoff spot.

GCL TWINS 8, GCL RED SOX 1 AT TWINS

Batting starsChad Christensen was 2-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one.  Rick Schwarz was 2-for-4 with a double and scored once.  Ryan Tufts was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.

Pitching starsSam Gibbons struck out six in five innings, giving up one run on three hits and no walks.  Seth Wagner pitched three shutout  innings, giving up one hit and one walk with two strikeouts.  Leonel Zazueta pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and no walks.

Key inning: The second.  It was a scoreless tie.  Brian Navaretto walked, Jason Kanzler tripled to put the Twins on the board, and Tufts singled to make it 2-0.

Pennant race update:  The GCL Twins are third in the GCL South, three games behind the GCL Orioles and GCL Red Sox.

Batting starsDubal Baez was 2-for-4 with a walk and two doubles, scoring twice and driving in two.  Francis Mateo was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Pitching starsEduardo Del Rosario pitched four innings, giving up two unearned runs on two hits and one walk with two strikeouts.  Williams Ramirez struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks.  Randolph Perez pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and no walks with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Yanuel Cuevas pitched five innings, allowing one run on three hits and one walk with three strikeouts.  Rochendrick Alexander was 2-for-4 and scored once.

Key inning:  The seventh.  The Twins trailed 4-1.  A single, a walk, and a single loaded the bases with none out.  Ariel Montesino singled in one.  A wild pitch brought home a second.  Baez doubled in two to put the Twins ahead and Mateo doubled in an insurance run.

  1. Pennant race update: Rochester leads Pawtucket by two games in the International League North.

    gotta wonder if that was part of the reason Colabello was sent down instead of someone else. After many dismal seasons, the Red Wings are vying for a title.
