September 1, 2013: Neau Mor

I think what bums me out the most is that he's deteriorated so much, I don't even feel all that strongly about his leaving. But hey, here's to yet another former Twin getting a World Series ring, eh?

  1. Which is worse: trading a declining concussed Morneau, enduring a declining hobbled Oliva, or an abruptly ended half-blind Puckett? They all suck, if you ask me.

    1. I think the Puckett situation was the worst (if you can choose) because it was just BAM, career over.

  2. Liverpool vs ManU on NBCSN right now

I guess I am cheering for Liverpool, but I still dont like that team.

  3. since the All Star Break, Mike Pelfrey's ERA has dropped from 5.55 to 4.86
    9 games, 50.2 IP and a 3.73 ERA
it might be that after the season is all said and done, the Pelfrey signing might be one of the better 'scrap heap' signings since.... Dennys Reyes? Kenny Rogers?

    1. Reyes signing was just fantastic.
In three years, Twins got 4.3 bWAR from a guy worth 5.8 over 15 seasons.

      1. 1.9 rWAR/3.1 fWAR from the Gambler for $2 million. That was a pretty good deal. Not sure why the big discrepancy between the two.

        1. fWAR not as kind to Reyes for his Twins years: 1.5 out of 5.7 career.
fWAR must value starters more than bWAR.

    1. [Taylor] had an uneasy relationship with the film's director, George Lucas, a notoriously uncommunicative individual, so Taylor was left to his own devices as to how to shoot the scenes. He declared himself unimpressed with the film, particularly the special effects and was surprised when it became such a hit.

It's seriously hard to find Lucas collaborators who think much of him. He doesn't appear to have a lot of vision. At this point, I think that film succeeded thanks to the efforts of those around him, and not because of him.

      1. and yet, here we are. Lucas has presided over the creation of a vast franchise, and a special effects business that has had a huge impact. He's obviously done a few things right. Can't all be dumb luck.

        1. Maybe we should start thinking of him less as a talented filmaker and more as a good businessman with a keen eye for the talent of others.

          1. well, you did say that he doesn't appear to have a lot of vision. I don't know what that means, other than his ginormous successes were not the result of his artistic talents.

            1. I don't think his movies are very good, which colors my opinion on that. He's obviously a great producer, but as a director, I don't like him at all. Having ginormous success doesn't mean the same thing as being ginormously talented. Kevin Smith was a huge success for about a decade, but he's not a hugely respected director.

Also: it turns out "ginormous" is accepted without the red line under it now, but "ginormously" is still on the road to being respected.

                  1. Indeed, 's why I mentioned it. Its also a good thing he wasn't directly involved in any LucasArts games.

  4. I slept on my wrist two nights ago and the pain just keeps getting worse. If I broke my wrist because of the way I slept, that'll shoot right near the top of the list of my dumbest injuries, which is already impressive.

    1. Yeah, if you managed to break your wrist sleeping on it, that would be pretty impressive crappy.

I pulled a rib out of place sleeping with my arm twisted around above my head a couple weeks ago. A couple visits to the chiropractor and lots of ibuprofen and stretching and it's finally almost back to normal.

      1. I once cracked my nose pulling up the covers in bed (sleeping in a loft). Hand slipped and POW! The mrs was laughing as I sent her for something to sop up the blood.

        1. I once accidentally bit EAR's lip while making out back when she was EAP.
Was supposed to be a playful tug or something and i don't even remember how it happened.
Lots of blood and no kissing for weeks.

      1. I plan to as best as I can, what with the bauble's hospitalization. I need to be around though, because I managed to secure the #1 pick (aka: the AP spot) in my money league, which drafts at the same time. Also, I want to talk about beer tomorrow night, because that's what fantasy drafts are for.

    1. I'll probably be around the computer, but I have about four major projects to get done this week, plus possibly a funeral, so I don't think I'll be participating in the draft. Autodraft, do your thing.

      1. thinking more... maybe you could take newspaper and magazine photos and paste them on paper for your girls. I don't really get newspapers or magazines though.

Find internet photos and print them out?

  5. one of my favorite things on Twitter is when Phil Mackey retweets Joe Mauer haters

    Phil Mackey ‏@PMac21
Oh. RT @Gleas23: Josmil Pinto will be better than Joe Mauer. You can put it on the board.

    1. Hey, you can choose to be angry, I choose to be overjoyed.

Just imagine, one team getting two first ballot Hall of Fame catchers back to back! The mind reels at our luck.

  6. The Red Wings won, so they stay alive in the International League wildcard race. Norfolk is currently tied 1-1 with Durham. Tomorrow is the last day of the season. If the two teams end in a tie, my understanding is that Rochester holds the tiebreaker.
