  1. Where is my hurricane? I spent the better part of Friday hauling sandbags and cutting plastic to fit in the doorways leading out into the french quarter. I spent at least 3 hours yesterday trimming the plastic to make it 'look nice'. I woke up this morning to nearly clear skies and a cold front pushing in. I glad that we were safer than sorrier, but I'm not looking forward to sandbag duty tomorrow.

  2. For the first time since probably February, Mrs. Twayn and I had a date night last night. We went to see Gravity, and decided to splurge on the IMAX 3D version. This was the first 'modern' 3D movie I'd seen, and it took about 10 minutes for my eyes to adjust, but once they did, I was blown away by the technology and what visionary people can put on a movie screen these days (given $100 million or so to work with, of course).

    1. It'd been a while since Philosofette and I had a date night too. We went to Erte's (which was excellent)(my first poutine ever!) in NE Minneapolis on Friday night, and then saw Wicked, which was very entertaining, though not nearly as brilliant as every high school girl ever has said.

  3. Tornado struck the S Family's ancestral home town yesterday (Wayne, NE). Nobody dead, thankfully.

  4. I'm assuming mine are in the residence of the housekeeper from last week's hotel stay, along with the iPod she stole from my bag.

Lesson learned: every bag gets locked at all times from now on.

  5. On The Grill last night (literally): pizza.num num. I made one with goat cheese, pork adovada, and roasted tomatoes; one with fresh mozz, sausage, tomatoes, and peppers; with fresh mozz, sausage, sauce, and sauteed onions; and one with fresh mozz, sauce, onions and peppers.

There's just something about the char you get on the crust from a chacoal grill.

  6. Meat and E-6, do either of you know Adam Turman? I just saw a piece about his illustrations on Minnesota Originals on PBS.

    1. Seriously, I just refreshed before posting to make sure no one had mentioned it. Dagnabbit!

    2. I think Freeman is considerably above "okay backup" level. The Freeman/Cassel combo is pretty darn good. I just wish it wasn't happening a quarter of the way through the season. If Ponder wasn't still on the roster and muddying the waters, I'd feel a lot better about it.

I hope so. I just don't have a lot of faith in that fact. At least they were able to just sign him, as opposed to making some sort of ill-conceived trade.

        1. I feel a lot more certain about that than I am of the chance of Ponder ever developing into an average starter.

And yes, at least they didn't have to trade away anything this time.

We certainly agree on that fact.

    3. goodbye MBT.
I suppose Ponder could go on IR or something, but having 4 QBs on the roster is too many.

So, what was the point of signing Cassel in the offseason if they arent going to use him as a backup?

      1. McLeod John Baltazar Bethel-Thompson.

I've been trying to figure out exactly what sort of character that name sounds like, but it doesn't sound like a name that even a teenager would make up for a off the cuff fanfic. That is the sort of name that wins Bantam Bulwyr.

          1. I mean, that name cannot be affixed to any non-evil person, can it?

Is this the event which begins his reign of terror?

            TURN BACK, ZYGI!!

  7. And it looks like the Vikings are going to sign Josh Freeman. I'm excited to see exactly how the coaching staff will mismanage the QB situation going forward.
