  1. I had to refresh the page about 5 times before this post finally showed up.

edit: And this LTE did not show up in the sidebar.

    1. I had a CoC draft open but didn't end up typing it, apparently. It was going to be mild annoyance that my preseason WS pick lost, but the Wolves losing the CSKA Moscow is more noteworthy.

      1. Meh, it was the second-stringers out there for most of the fourth quarter and overtime. Plus, now Adelman is pissed.

        1. I think the most important take-away from the game is that Shabazz only played 6 minutes. That's still too many, but its a step in the right direction.

        1. But, four and 1s!

I watched most of the second half and overtime and saw very little of Ricky and K-Love and none (I don't think) of Pekovic. It was an uninspiring performance, but I wanted to watch because I've been psyched about basketball for a while now. Having seen that last night, I can now wait until the regular season.

          1. I was in an out of the game
but it looked like the Rooskies where shooting the lights out

  2. Special alert to Vikings fans: Matt Flynn is now available, in case you want another backup QB.

    1. its amazing how much money that dude has made because he threw for 6 TDs in a meaningless week 17 game

    2. If none of their QBs are valuable, I think they should switch to the option and use their QBs as a human shield for AP.

  3. Calcaterra wrote this about the Braves, but I think it applies to the Twins equally well. Other than the "have spent relatively little time as an uncompetitive team over the past 22 years" part.

    1. I was chatting with a friend during the game last night, and while I was glad to see the Braves get run, it did make me think of how similar their recent lack of postseason success is similar to the Twins. Then it made me pine for the Twins breaking my heart in October.

    2. I somewhat disagree with the particulars, though I agree with the general idea that the Braves are like the Twins in that they self-identify as old school and that identity drags some negatives in with its positives. In the particulars, I think even pretty old school managers bring in their closer in the 8th in the playoffs or use their closer for more than 3 outs. Gardy, for instance, brought in Joe Nathan in the 8th back in 2004, for a 5-out appearance, even though the Twins were behind in a close game. He also brought Nathan into a tie game in that series. (It's still a bit unbelievable that Nathan went out for a 3rd inning in Game 2 '04.)

I still am a bit disappointed about Nathan's postseason performances with the Twins. He was so good in the regular season, and granted most of his appearances with the Twins were against the Yankees and noted PED abuser/general villain Alex Rodriguez, hitters in the postseason hit .258/.378/.452 against him. SSS is cold comfort in this case.

      1. The salient point was less about bringing in the closer early, which Gardy has done, and more about how the Twins are defined by their culture. The Twins Way is different from the Braves Way, but neither will veer from their ways.

    3. Unrelated except from the story describing the Dodgers win:

They tore jerseys off each other in unbridled excitement and doused Uribe with a brightly colored sports drink.

Four letter no has agreement with Gatorade?

  4. BTW, thanks for the words of support yesterday.

Given that I was already blowing past 1,000 words I didn't include a lot more that I could have, like dealing with my wife's two sisters, what it was like being basically a bachelor while kids in school and wife in hospital, the difference in the quality of nurses based on level of critical care in hospital, What it's like networking after 9 years out of the job market, etc. It's been quite fascinating and definitely essay worthy.

    1. You have certainly had more than your share of stuff to deal with. You remain in our prayers.

  5. anyone been playing GTAV lately (sorry, haven't seen a video game post in awhile)? i'm a handful of missions in, and so far it seems to me that they basically took the main character from vice city and the main character from san andreas, and just put them both in the same game.

that said, rockstar #pmki, as usual.

    1. I have...and if Beau doesn't make a Pixel Perfect post soon, I've got some fodder of my own I'd like to write up (don't want to step on toes).

    2. I feel like one of the few who hasn't. I'm kind of holding out hope for a PC or next gen port, but if I can get it cheap I will definitely pick it up sooner rather than later.

I've mostly been playing stuff on my handhelds. Animal Crossing New Leaf on my 3DS (still) and Earth Defense Force 2017 on my Vita.

    1. Nice start for Alex Meyer. According to Keith Law he was working at 98 with sink on his fastball.

When does he go in for TJ?

Meyer hit 100 once, bunch of 99s, walked Addison Russell then punched out the next three guys— keithlaw (@keithlaw) October 8, 2013

      Be still, my heart.

          1. That inning you talked about had one too many walks, and three too many strikeouts. Don't worry, Anderson will get him straightened out.

    2. Fun game to track- Glendale is winning 4-3, even though only 2 of their players have gotten hits (and neither of them are Twins prospects, I don't think).

        1. Plus A.J. Achter and Zack Jones (who just coughed up the lead, giving up a 5-spot in the 8th. Ouch.)

    1. The Army Corps of Engineers is overseeing the construction of the facility

      What could go wrong?

        1. Ding-ding-ding! I think Twayn knows where the problem lies.

However, I showed this to an electrical contractor I work with, and he dismissed a lot of it. Sure, it points to shoddy installation and maybe sub-standard equipment, but he said arc-flash explosions are not unusual when changing over the temporary power supplies to the permanent installations.

He also said he's glad he doesn't do projects that size.

  6. I wonder how many other sports franchises include both a hockey and soccer team.

On a similar note, I didn't even know FC Barcleona included a baseball team until they got rid of it a couple years ago.

        1. And they crushed them tonight. Final score: Lynx 88, Dream 63...apparently the largest margin of victory in WNBA Finals history.

          1. So the Lynx are like the Heat, eh?
Fail in the first year with great expectations, and now being even better. (And the Dream are not very good.)
Lynx should go for the sweep in Atlanta.
And then the league should be folded as uncompetitive. (Olympic softball sourness there.)

            1. Well, the Lynx won the title in 2011, then lost in the finals last year, so not exactly the same as the Heat, but sort of.

              1. Oh, right.
They won it all, and then brought in more stars and set themselves as the juggernaut team only to fail in the finals.
And now in year 2 of the new "title or bust" expectations, they look like they're rolling...

      1. MN beat Atlanta 84-59 behind 23 points from Maya Moore. They led by 8 after the first quarter and then 19 at the half. The Dream never got close.
Whalen only had 3 points, but Monica Wright added 20 off the bench.

  7. and the Wild are down 3-1 in the first against Nashville and Backstrom is out with a leg injury. Man this team is frustrating

    1. And they cut it to 1 on a PP goal from the 2nd unit: G by Spurgeon, assisted by Nino and Granlund.
