Fall Festival: Games of 10/19

Zack Jones had a good inning.  No home teams won.  Two games were decided by late big innings.

SURPRISE 7, GLENDALE 0 IN GLENDALE

TwinsEddie Rosario was 0-for-4.  Max Kepler was 1-for-3.  Trevor May pitched two innings, giving up three runs on two hits and three walks with two strikeouts.  Zack Jones struck out two in a perfect inning.

Surprise:  Mitch Haniger (Milwaukee) was 1-for-3 with two walks and a three-run homer.  Tim Berry (Baltimore) pitched four shutout innings, giving up three hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

Glendale:  The team had only three hits, all singles.

The game:  Haniger hit a three-run homer in the first inning.  Surprise added two in the third, one in the fourth, and one in the seventh.

SCOTTSDALE 12, PEORIA 7 IN PEORIA

Scottsdale:  Elmer Reyes (Atlanta) was 4-for-6 with two doubles, scoring three times and driving in two.  Alen Hanson (Pittsburgh) was 3-for-5, scoring three times and driving in two.   Cory Vaughn (Mets) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a triple, scoring twice and driving in three.

Peoria:  Cory Spangenberg was 4-for-5 with a double and scored twice.  Austin Hedges was 2-for-3 with two walks and a double, driving in three.  Jonathan Meyer was 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in one.

The game:  It was tied 4-4 after six.  An error, a wild pitch, and two fly balls put Scottsdale ahead 5-4 in the seventh.  In the eighth, Scottsdale scored six to put the game out of reach.  The opened the inning with three walks, Hanson delievered a two-run single, Reyes had an RBI double, Vaughn drove in two with a triple, and Peter O'Brien (Yankees) had an RBI single.  Peoria came back with three in the bottom of the eighth but got no closer.

SALT RIVER 8, MESA 2 IN MESA

Salt River:  Derrick Chung (Toronto) was 2-for-3 with a double and scored once.  Ryan Brett (Tampa Bay) was 2-for-5 with a triple and an RBI.  Drew Hutchison (Toronto) struck out five in four shutout innings, giving up no hits and one walk.

Mesa:  Michael Roth (Angels) pitched four shutout innings, allowing one hit and two walks with two strikeouts.

The game:  Mesa got a two-run double by Jett Bandy in the seventh to take a 2-1 lead.  Salt River got seven in the ninth to win the game.  They had five singles, Mesa made two errors, there was a walk, a hit batsman, and two sacrifice flies.
