Venezuelan View: Games of 10/16

Mark Hamburger continues to pitch well.

ARAGUA 6, MARGARITA 1 IN MARGARITA

Twins:  Jermaine Mitchell (Aragua) was 1-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Ray Olmedo (Aragua) was used as a reserve and was 0-for-1.  Antoan Richardson (Margarita) was 1-for-4.  Mark Hamburger (Aragua) struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks.

Aragua:  Carlos Colmanares was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Guillermo Quiroz was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Yohan Pino (Cincinnati) pitched five shutout innings, giving up three hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

Margarita:  Ellis Jimenez (Boston) pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk with one strikeout.

The game:  Aragua broke a scoreless tie with five runs in the fifth.  The runs scored on a double, a single, a hit batsman, a walk, and two more singles,.

CARACAS 11, ANZOATEGUI 2 IN CARACAS

Twins:  Eduardo Escobar (Anzoategui) was 0-for-3 and scored once.

Anzoategui:  Oscar Salazar was 2-for-4 with a home run.  Jose Castillo was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Gorkys Hernandez (Kansas City) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Caracas:  Danny Dorn (Detroit) was 3-for-3 with a double and a two-run homer (his third), scoring three times.  Luis Rodriguez (Angels) was 3-for-4 with a three-run homer.  Tiago Da Silva struck out five in five shutout innings, giving up four hits and no walks.

The game:  Caracas put up a crooked number in five consecutive innings:  two in the second, two in the third, two in the fourth, three in the fifth, two in the sixth.  Anzoategui did not score until the eighth.

MAGALLANES 3, ZULIA 2 IN ZULIA

Magallanes:  Adonis Garcia (Yankees) was 2-for-4 and scored once.  Mitch Lively (San Francisco) struck out eight in seven shutout innings, giving up four hits and two walks.

Zulia:  Felix Perez (Cincinnati) was 2-for-4 and scored once.  Roy Merritt pitched 6.1 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

The game:  Magallanes scored single runs in the third, seventh, and ninth.  In the bottom of the ninth, two singles, an error, a hit batsman, and a wild pitch made the score 3-2 and put runners on second and third with two out.

LA GUAIRA 4, LARA 2 IN LARA

La Guaira:  Carlos Sanchez (White Sox) was 2-for-3 with a walk and scored once.  Andy Wilkins (White Sox) was 2-for-5.

Lara:  Gabriel Noriega (Seattle) was 2-for-3 with a triple  Jesus Solarzano (Miami) was 2-for-4 with a double.  Red (Dodgers) Patterson pitched five innings, allowing one run on two hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Lara scored two in the first to take a 2-1 lead.  La Guaira tied it in the sixth and got two in the seventh to go ahead.  The go-ahead run scored on a wild pitch.
