Venezuelan View: Games of 10/17

A good day for Eduardo Escobar.  A perfect day for Deolis Guerra.

ARAGUA 3, MARGARITA 1 IN MARGARITA

Twins:  Jermaine Mitchell (Aragua) was 0-for-4.  Antone Richardson (Margarita) was 1-for-4 with a double.  Edgar Ibarra (Aragua) struck out two in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and no walks.  Aaron Thompson (Aragua) pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up one hit and no runs.

Aragua:  Guillermo Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with a double, scoring twice.  Alex Romero was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.  Omar Poveda (Atlanta) pitched 4.2 innings, giving up one run on five hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

Margarita:  Corey Brown was 3-for-4 with an RBI.  Danny Rosenbaum (Washington) pitched three shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

The game:  Margarita scored in the first inning and it stayed 1-0 through six.  In the seventh, Romero hit a two-run homer to give Aragua the lead.  Romero drove in an insurance run with an RBI single in the ninth.

MAGALLANES 2, ZULIA 1 IN ZULIA

Twins:  Deolis Guerra (Magallanes) struck out the side in a perfect ninth to get the save.

Magallanes:  Ezequiel Carrera (Cleveland) was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Matt Palmer (Dodgers) struck out six in five shutout innings, giving up two hits and three walks.

Zulia:  Josh Schmidt pitched 6.1 innings, allowing an unearned run on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

The game:  Magallanes scored a single run in the third on an error and another in the eighth on a walk, a single, and two more walks.  Zulia got one in the bottom of the eighth and had the tying run on second with two out.

ANZOATEGUI 7, LARA 5 IN LARA

Twins:  Eduardo Escobar (Anzoategui) was 2-for-5 with a triple and scored once.  Lester Oliveros (Anzoategui) pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.

Anzoategui:  Gorkys Hernandez (Kansas City) was 3-for-4 with a walk and a triple, scoring three times and driving in one.  Cory Aldridge was 2-for-3 with two walks and a double, driving in one.  Chris Smith struck out eight in 4.2 innings, giving up one run on three hits and a walk.

Lara:  Joc Pederson (Dodgers) was 2-for-3 with two walks, a double, and a triple, scoring once and driving in two.  Jairo Perez (Kansas City) was 2-for-5 and scored once.  Paulo Orlando was 2-for-5 and scored once.

The game:  Anzoategui led from the beginning, going up 5-1 after six and a half.  In the bottom of the seventh, Jesus Solarzano (Miami) and Pederson led off with back-to-back triples to start a four-run rally and tie the score.  In the eighth, an RBI triple by Hernandez led to a two-run rally that put Anzoategui ahead 7-5.

CARACAS 5, LA GUAIRA 4 IN CARACAS

Caracas:  Rico Noel (San Diego) was 2-for-5 with a home run, scoring twice and driving in two.  Daniel Mayora was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, driving in one.  Ronald Uviedo pitched three shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks.

La Guaira:  Alex Cabrera was 2-for-4 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one.  Carlos Sanchez (White Sox) was 2-for-4 and scored once.  Reynel Pinto pitched five innings, allowing one run on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Caracas broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the sixth.  Luis Rodriguez (Angels) and Mayora each had an RBI double in the inning.  La Guaira came back with three in the seventh as Cabrera had an RBI double and Jose Martinez (Atlanta) had an RBI triple.  La Guaira did not get the tying run on base.
