Mexican Matchups: Games of 10/15

Comebacks fall short for Guasave and Obregon.  Kevin Kouzmanoff is off to a good start for Mexicali.

MAZATLAN 3, GUASAVE 2 IN GUASAVE

Mazatlan:  Issmael Salas was 3-for-4 with a double and a run.  Mario Santana was 2-for-3 with a run.  Walter Silva pitched five innings, giving up one run on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Guasave:  Jesus Cota was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Eduardo Arredondo was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double.  Manuel Flores pitched six innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on eight hits and one walk with five strikeouts.

The game:  Mazatlan scored two in the third and one in the fourth to go ahead 3-0.  Guasave came back with single runs in the fourth and sixth.  Guasave had the tying run on third in the sixth and on second in the ninth.

HERMOSILLO 6, LOS MOCHIS 3 IN HERMOSILLO

Los Mochis:  Saul Soto was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring twice.  Jake Fox (Arizona) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Hermosillo:  Jerry Owens was 3-for-4 with two walks, scoring once and driving in one.  Jesse Gutierrez was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Ryan Verdugo (Kansas City) pitched five innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

The game:  Los Mochis took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, but Hermosillo came back to score twice in the bottom of the inning.  Adan Munoz homered to tie it at one and Carlos Gastelum delivered an RBI single to put Hermosillo ahead.  They stretched the lead to 5-1 after five and were never really threatened.

MEXICALI 3, OBREGON 2 IN MEXICALI

Obregon:  Barbaro Canizares was 2-for-4 with a home run.

Mexicali:  Kevin Kouzmanoff (Miami) was 2-for-3 with a three-run homer, his second.  Irwin Delgado struck out five in 5.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk.

The game:  The three-run Kouzmanoff homer put Mexicali ahead 3-1 in the third.  Obregon cut the lead to 3-2 in the sixth.  Obregon got the tying run to second in the sixth and seventh.
