Dominican Digest: Games of 11/8

Free baseball in two of the three games.  Lots of pitchers used in Oriente.  A wild pitch decides things in Cibao.

LICEY 9, ORIENTE 7 IN ORIENTE (15 INNINGS)

Twins:  Chris Herrmann (Oriente) was 0-for-3 with a walk.

Licey:  Yamaico Navarro was 2-for-6 with two walks and two doubles, scoring once and driving in two.  Jordany Valdespin (Mets) was 2-for-5 with three walks and a home run (his second), scoring twice.  Maximo Nelson pitched three shutout innings, giving up no hits and two walks with one strikeout.

Oriente:  Alex Valdez was 2-for-6 with a walk, a triple, and a home run (his second), scoring twice and driving in three.  Audy Ciriaco was 2-for-6 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Gustavo Nunez was 2-for-6 with an RBI.

The game:  Oriente scored six in the first, but Licey got two in the third and three in the fourth to get back in it and tied the score with a home run by Valdespin in the eighth.  Juan Francisco hit a two-run single in a three-run fifteenth to take the lead.  Oriente got one in the bottom of the fifteenth on a Valdez homer, its first run since the first inning, but did not get the tying run up to bat.

Random:  The teams combined to use twenty-three pitchers.

ESCOGIDO 2, AGUILAS 0 IN ESCOGIDO

Twins:  Jorge Polanco (Escogido) was 1-for-4.  Deibinson Romero (Escogido) was 0-for-3.

Aguilas:  Angel Castro struck out six in five innings, giving up two runs on six hits and three walks.

Escogido:  Erik Gonzalez (Cleveland) was 2-for-3 with a run.  Sean Nolin (Toronto) pitched six shutout innings, allowing two hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

The game:  Escogido scored once in the third and once in the fifth.  Both runs scored on infield outs.  The closest Aguilas came to scoring was the eighth.  They opened the inning with a pair of singles, but did not get a man past second base.

ESTE 2, CIBAO 1 IN CIBAO (10 INNINGS)

Este:  Ricardo Nanita was 2-for-4.  Raul Valdes (Houston) pitched 4.1 innings, giving up one run on eight hits and one walk with four strikeouts.

Cibao:  Oscar Tejeda was 3-for-4 with an RBI.  Moises Sierra (Toronto) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring once.  Jeff Mandel pitched five shutout innings, allowing five hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

The game:  Tejeda hit an RBI single in the fourth to put Cibao ahead 1-0.  Este tied it in the eighth on a single by Jose Ramirez (Cleveland).  The go-ahead run scored on a wild pitch in the tenth.  Cibao was retired in order in the bottom of the tenth.
