Fall Festival: Games of 11/13

A good day for Eddie Rosario wasn't enough.  Peoria nearly gets an odd cycle.  Salt River wins it in the ninth.

MESA 3, GLENDALE 2 IN MESA

Twins:  Eddie Rosario was 2-for-4 with a triple and a run.  Alex Meyer started and pitched three innings, giving up two runs on three hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

Glendale:  Brent Keys (Miami) was 3-for-5 with a double and a run.  Travis Mattair (Cincinnati) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double.  Kevin Vance (White Sox) struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up no hits and no walks.

Mesa:  Matt Skole (Washington) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a triple, scoring once.  Jeff Urlaub (Oakland) struck out two in two shutout innings, allowing two hits and one walk.

The game:  Steven Souza, Jr. (Washington) hit a two-run homer in the second and Skole circled the bases on a triple-and-error in the fourth to give Mesa a 3-0 lead.  Glendale scored single runs in the fifth and eighth but could not get the tying run past first base.

PEORIA 7, SURPRISE 6 IN SURPRISE

Peoria:  Japhet Amador (Houston) was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, his fourth.  Stefen Romero (Seattle) was 2-for-4 with a home run, his second.  Jason Adam (Kansas City) pitched four shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

Surprise:  Mookie Betts (Boston) was 3-for-4 with a walk and an RBI.  Derrik Gibson (Boston) was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run.  Michael Ohlman (Baltimore) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a three-run homer, his fourth.

The game:  Romero homered in the second to put Peoria up 1-0.  Amador hit a two-run homer in the third and Orlando Calixte hit a three-run homer in the fourth to make it 6-0.  It would've completed an odd cycle if Peoria had hit a grand slam in the sixth, but they went down in order.  In the seventh, Cory Spangenberg (San Diego) tripled and scored on a passed ball for what appeared to be a meaningless run, making it 7-0.  It turned out to be pretty important, as Surprise got a three-run homer from Ohlman as part of a four-run seventh.  Surprise added single runs in the eighth and ninth and got the tying run to second base with two out.

SALT RIVER 8, SCOTTSDALE 5 IN SCOTTSDALE

Salt River:  Stephen Piscotty (St. Louis) was 4-for-5 with a run and two RBIs.  Marcus Stromen (Toronto) struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks.

Scottsdale:  Mason Williams (Yankees) was 3-for-5 with two runs.  Addison Maruszak (Yankees) was 3-for-5 with a run.  Andrew Susac (San Francisco) was 2-for-4 with a run.

The game:  Scottsdale got six singles in the fourth inning to change a 3-0 deficit into a 4-3 lead.  The teams traded runs in the fifth.  Richie Shaffer doubled and scored in the sixth to tie it at five.  It stayed there until the ninth, when two doubles, a hit batsman, two errors, and a wild pitch led to three Salt River runs.
