Venezuelan View: Games of 11/21

Oswaldo Arcia has a big day.  Miguel Sulbaran has a successful Venezuelan League debut.  Jesus saves the day with a walkoff in Caracas.

ARAGUA 15, ZULIA 6 IN ARAGUA

Twins:  Oswaldo Arcia (Aragua) was 4-for-5 with a walk and a double, scoring four times and driving in four.  Miguel Sulbaran (Zulia) made his Venezuelan League debut, pitching 1.1 scoreless innings while giving up one hit and no walks with one strikeout.

Zulia:  Ernesto Mejia (Atlanta) was 3-for-5 with a two-run homer (his seventh) and two runs.  Feliz Perez (Cincinnati) was 2-for-4 with a home run (his seventh) and two RBIs.  Ali Castillo (Yankees) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a run.

Aragua:  Yangervis Solarte was 5-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Ronny Cedeno (San Diego) was 3-for-5 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Alex Romero was 2-for-5 with a walk and a double, scoring twice and driving in one.

The game:  Solarte singled in the go-ahead run in a three-run third inning rally that put Aragua ahead 4-3.  Hector Gimenez hit a two-run single in the fourth to make it 5-3 and a seven-run fifth put the game out of reach.  Arcia had a three-run double in the fifth inning.

ANZOATEGUI 8, MARGARITA 3 IN ANZOATEGUI

Twins:  Eduardo Escobar (Anzoategui) was 0-for-4.

Margarita:  Manny Pina was 3-for-4 with a home run, his second.  Cesar Hernandez (Philadelphia) was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.  Henry Sosa pitched three innings, giving up one run on four hits and no walks with one strikeout.

Anzoategui:  Cory Aldridge was 3-for-3 with a walk and two home runs, his eighth and ninth.  Niuman Romero was 3-for-4 with a walk and a home run (his fifth), scoring twice.  Mark Serrano pitched 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on nine hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

The game:  Aldridge homered in the second and fourth, giving Anzoategui a 2-1 lead.  In the fifth, a Romero homer and a two-run double by Oscar Salazar put Anzoategui ahead 5-2.  Margarita scored in the sixth to cut the lead to 5-3, but in the bottom of the sixth Salazar hit a two-run homer to close out a three-run rally and make the score 8-3.

CARACAS 6, LA GUAIRA 4 IN CARACAS (10 INNINGS)

La Guaira:  Salvador Perez (Kansas City) was 3-for-6 with a double.  Alex Cabrera was 2-for-5 with a home run, his ninth.  Reynel Pinto struck out five in 4.1 innings, giving up one run on four hits and three walks.

Caracas:  Jesus Guzman (San Diego) was 4-for-4 with a walk, a double, and two home runs, scoring three times and driving in three.  Gerardo Parra (Arizona) was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Yoanner Negrin (Cubs) pitched five innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits and two walks with one strikeout.

The game:  Gregorio Petit hit a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth to tie the score at three.  Cabrera homered in the seventh to put La Guaira up 4-3, but Caracas got the run back in the eighth when they loaded the bases with none out and scored on a double play.  La Guaira had the bases loaded with one out in the tenth but failed to score.  With one out in the bottom of the tenth, Guzman hit a walk-off two-run homer.

LARA 7, MAGALLANES 1 IN MAGALLANES

Lara:  Jairo Perez was 2-for-3 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Jose Yepez was 2-for-2 with two walks and a double.  Erasmo Ramirez (Seattle) pitched four shutout innings, giving up four hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

Magallanes:  Adonis Garcia (Yankees) was 3-for-4.  Mario Lisson was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Lew Ford was 2-for-5.

The game:  Lara got two unearned runs in the second and got four more in the third to take control early.  Perez had a two-run double in the big third inning.
