Twins: Kennys Vargas (Mayaguez) was 2-for-4 with a home run (his third) and four RBIs. Eddie Rosario (Mayaguez) was 0-for-5. Daniel Ortiz (Mayaguez) was 2-for-5 with a run. Jorge Fernandez (Carolina) was used as a pinch-hitter and was 0-for-1.
Mayaguez: Randy Ruiz was 3-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in two. Irving Falu was 2-for-4 with a walk and three runs. Jonathan Albaladejo pitched five shutout innings, giving up four hits and no walks with two strikeouts.
Carolina: Luis Matos was 2-for-3 with a double. Raul Rivera (Houston) pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing two hits and no runs with two strikeouts.
The game: Mayaguez scored seven in the second to put things away early. Three singles and two walks brought home the first two runs. Ruiz then had a two-run single and Vargas hit a three-run homer.
CAGUAS 3, SANTURCE 2 IN CAGUAS
Santurce: Neftali Soto (Cincinnati) was 2-for-4 with a run. Edwin Maysonet was 2-for-3. Eric Niesen struck out three in two perfect innings.
Caguas: Edgardo Baez was 2-for-3 with a walk and two doubles, driving in one. Andy Gonzalez was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Michael Nix struck out five in five innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and no walks.
The game: It was tied 1-1 after two and a half and 2-2 after three and a half. It remained tied until the seventh, when Andy Gonzalez hit an RBI double to put Caguas in the lead. Santurce did not get a man past first after that.
